I thought it was just the website that is getting binned.
Social media? That's how rumours start.

It's on the MM forum. The site is to shut very soon, at the end of the month I believe. The magazine has been sold on possibly to be integrated into another. Sad, very sad, news although I have to admit that I very rarely bought a copy of the magazine for years. Bit like the death of a dear old relative you always meant to go & visit.

The mag was heading towards how it used to be with a much wider spread of subjects and periods inc. more figures/,busts and uniform info. So it's a terrible shame the mag and site are being binned. I believe the mag is to be incorporated into MMI but it's hard to see that as anything other than window dressing.
The announcement on the Mil Mod website came today with 3 days to go before closure. What happens to subscriptions, including mine, I don't know yet.

Sad, but I saw it coming a long way back. I pine for the good old days of MM withR. J. Marrion, Bryan Fosten et al when the primary focus was on model soldiers, uniforms, regimental history etc.

Sorry to see it go but it’s run it’s course.

I had all issues from 1976 to October 2013 and then went digital. In my opinion Ken Jones’ successor failed to continue the standard and the internet has killed the advertising revenue by and large. The present editor has tried hard but it’s not as good as it used to be in it’s hay day.

I had already decided that my old issues will be reviewed for interesting articles to cut out and keep and the rest will go in the recycling.

    Cheers

What a shame but like others have said, it somewhat lost its way some years ago after moving from being an authority on figure painting and regimental histories (references) etc to messing around with those action man style dolls and multi page articles about fantasy AFVs; subjects often formulated more in peoples' minds and imaginations rather than any blue prints drawn up for. I also never understood why they later tackled model aircraft when there are (were) a plethora of much better magazines tackling that branch of the hobby? In recent years, it was something of a 'jack of all trades and a master of none' magazine within the hobby.

Irrespective, thanks for the memories of happier times!

Yes, it is a sad day, but as Mike said it was on the cards.
2 years ago there were on the verge of scrapping the magazine then, or thinking of reprinting old articles believing they wouldn't have to pay the authors again, until advised otherwise.
Martyn Chorlton who stepped in as editor tried really hard to save the magazine, he got more figure articles going, and increased the circulation.
Unfortunately he didn't get a great deal of support from the management.

For myself personally I'm at a bit of a loss as I've been contributing articles for the past 10 years, it's going to be strange not producing any more.
The only consolation if you can call it that, is that my bust of Nelson graced the cover on the final issue.
    A real keepsake.

I'm pretty sure the shades of my dear old friends, Bob Marrion and Don Fosten will be uttering a few expletives in the general direction of the editorial offices:angelic:

This cannot be considered a surprise, it's been coming for years.
This is despiite valiant efforts of a dwindling few, the mag had had it's day.
It will be remembered fondly, at least the ones from yesteryear anyway.

I have the front cover of a couple of my favourite ones framed on the wall, for all time. RIP.

    How bizarre,
I took 20 volumes off Mil Mod to the recycling less than 2 weeks ago. Looking through the older ones I can see why I eagerly anticipated each issue. Looking at the latter ones I now know why I cancelled my subscription!

I'm sorting out all since 1976 and totally agree with your sentiments.

I should add I stopped the print subscription in 2013 and the headline on the front page "The last of the line". I since got the digital subscription and last week got the new magazine which had nothing at all to do with figures, went to the iTunes store and cancelled the automatic renewal.

    Cheers

A while back I dumped my collection of MM. Figurines. Soldatini and Euro Modelismo.
It was a great cathartic experience :D
Lately I've been clearing out the cellar and the eaves space and have been coming across the odd early MM and Figurines......they really were better, not so much for the photos but for the quality of the content and writing.

    Hi,
I have kept my collection of Figurines magazine which I still enjoy looking back through. Although this now is detracting more towards the fantasy than the Figurine Historique.
