When a thunderstorm from the garden drove us into the house last evening, I took the opportunity to present my sample ideas to Marion.

So what I have presented in the last post here.

She looked at ma templates, then at the figure - and at the same time she put on her special look, which lies somewhere in the middle between "Aha, that's how you imagine this ...!" and "Poor madman!".

Then she asked: "You really want to paint everything ...?"

And so she directed my attention to a detail that had somehow escaped my attention so far:

The folded collar of the caftan measures just four millimeters at its widest point!

Since I can not show symmetries or asymmetries, there is to simplify!

So on the first collar I painted a simple (and calm!) tendril patternsimilar to my template "D".

Gold has not yet been used, only "Yellow Ocre" ...:

And now? What do you think...?

The longer I look at Artjom, the less satisfied I am with my work on the inner lining! Does not look like my template and somehow reminds me of the gold trim of a marshal uniform.

These flower things must be smaller, more must come from them, and they must be closer together.

This is what I have done today...:

Now carefully glaze some shadows on it and brush the highlights with some gold ...

The inner lining does look better now you have reworked it .......and I am sure that as your eye for details is so good you just wouldn't have been happy if you had not revisited it.

    Looking forward to more updates

Pattern A is the toughest one if you are going to cover an area large enough for two or more circles to be visible just for the simple fact that the circles must be completely "round"and identical to eachother. This is not to easy to do freehand but if you can manage it I think that pattern A will produce stunnining results.

With a very thin glaze of "Gory Red" and "Chocolate Brown", I first defined a few shadow zones for the embroidery on the collar - and then carefully brushed the highlights with pure gold.

The gold does not shine and is therefore not dominant, but it shimmers only slightly - and you can see it only on the second or third look, as I have imagined ...:

Then I painted the pattern on the other part of the collar - tomorrow I want to also glaze it and gently "gild" ...:

I have just treated the second side of the collar as well as the first one yesterday.

First careful glazes to create shadow zones, then brushed - perhaps even more cautiously - a little gold on the high lights.

And since I was already glazing, I have the chest / abdominal area and the cuffs of the caftan again made, as a friend had suggested.

I have the bright colors - especially the blue! - a bit slowed down, so that it looks colorful, but the impression of the "red overall" more prominent, as with one of the originals ...:

And so it looks now, the finished kaftan ...:

I think the effort - a week I painted it - was worth it ...

Next Point in the program: The hands!

Ilya Repin has equipped his Cossack with paws like coal shovels - and Pavol did a great job reproducing that ...:

However, Repin has equipped his figure with three very different skin tones!

Once the face - a shade of brown with a relatively large proportion of red (where I sort purple under "red") ...:

Second, a super-bright ocher tone (with brown and little red parts) for the chest ...:

And for the third a very dark brown tone (rather without red) for the hands ...:

HOW different these skin tones are, you can see only really good, if you omit the "trappings"!

But as with the breast, I do not intend to cling slavishly to the skin colors in the picture!

So I mixed a tone that is much darker than the chest and different from the tone of the face, but not as extreme as the painting.

I have that u. a. achieved by the fact that I completely renounced reds at the hand and instead only took these colors ...:

By the way, as a part of the basic color, white was only used for fingernails!

So much for theory, now for practice.

The first hand is finished ...:
