Had to take a few days off painting due to my arthritic knees flaring up again. Means I cannot sit in one position for more than a few minutes without moving or I just cannot walk lol.

Anyway, bit more done on the highlighting and shading, the belts have been worked on and the sash changed to an orange Parliamentarian one, he still needs a haircut for that to be convincing though

Between this and the last picture, it doesn’t look that much different but quite a lot has gone into it

There's much written about the colour of sashes, length of hair, etc by which to differentiate the Royalists and Parlimentarian forces during the ECW, but I think that most of this stems from Victorian historian's viewpoints. Modern thinking is that there was very little to distinguish individual units, apart from Colonel's colours. As there were landed gentry who supported both sides in the conflict, I think it's safe to say that anything goes, really. Units did adopt field symbols, sprigs of oak leaves, coloured material wrapped as armbands, etc, but the orange/red sash is a bit of an anathema, as Bagot's Regiment, a Royalist regiment who were raised at Blithfield, Staffordshire, had light blue sashes, with purple coats, just to mix things up!

I think it's probably a case of going with whatever you like, as it's difficult to prove/disprove, either way!

Going with whatever I like is my favourite style of modelling. I have a lot of respect for the people who research and do the best to provide historical accuracy but my modelling/figure painting is, selfishly, just for my fun and pleasure so I do not get hung up about detail.

However, I love getting feedback and information such as what you posted above as it expands my knowledge and allows me to make informed choices so many thanks.
