I have been watching Youtube videos on this subject (done mostly with larger scale horses). I was wondering what techniques any of the Planeteers use for this task for 1/32 scale horses. What say you? Thanks.

Have a look at the Rio Rondo website. It has an example of just about every horse you might want to paint:-
    https://www.riorondo.com/books/cft/index.html
The listed book is currently unavailable, and the next edition has been promised since the 'dawn of time'.
However, the pictures themselves are very useful. Just click on any of the listed items on the left.

    Cheers,

Thanks Andrew. The book looks as if it would be a great find. Too bad it is currently unavailable. The Rio Rondo website does not appear to have been updated since 2016.

I love painting horses....if it were me approaching a Roan...IMHO...the best way to achieve the coat would be 'stippling'...or...if using an AB...a 'spatter' nozzle.

Thanks Ron. There are several videos covering the subject on Youtube. Stippling is one of the techniques used there.

Probably one of the more difficult horse colours as there are so many variations and subtlies in colour form greyish sand to strawberry roan .
I have seen a couple done by Dave Mitchel which are very nice .
