Some excellent painting there, with the five o'clock shadow and the leather jacket. The German officers were well turned out with their uniforms.............

Getting me in the mood to try Montgomery.......

Thank you ! I should get it done by next week. I am very impressed with Abteilung's oils (first time using those) on skin and leather. The pigment is fantastic. I should now retire my old beated Rembrandt's.

Yes, these officers were all groomed up, despite Rommel's Africa scenario, I wanted this one to be a little more on the neat side.

Finally, done. Sorry about the dark photo of the finished bust, my workbench warms up the flesh tone too much, but I will get pro photos next week.

As I mentioned earlier, this build will give a couple of articles for the Michigan Toy Soldier Blog, which I write, I will give a full review of the bust itself, also Abteilung 502 Oil paints, and 02 turorials on how to Paint Leather with oils and another on flesh tone with oils (my humble method).

So stay tuned for those who would like to get a closer look on oil painting...

Thank you all for the support on this build :)

Interesting read. The paint it on, wipe it off method is ok so long as the head has no other detail cast on. Not sure as I would use it with beards, chin straps moulded on. Not saying it wouldn’t work but the way I would work. However, the rest of it is really the way I like to work (y)

Graham, I do this even with other details, that's why I mention it must be the first thing to paint on the face or area. You just have to be extra careful for the later details. Since oils dry to a thin film, quite resistant, You can paint over them with acrylics and wipe of any mistakes with a wet precision cotton, without problems. That's how I do eyes after, paint on and correct any mistakes with Tamiya Precision Cotton Swabs moistened with tap water. when you have beard and hair, it's even better to get a smooth transition in color, I like it. For small scale figure this process is 80% of the work, you get instant good skin tone after wiping it off.

    Thanks for the input :)
