    Greetings,
As some of you know I slope off to the sun every winter. Like a good student I bring my home work with me.
So I have decided to do my three V Busts from Left to Right they are as Follows :-

1, Sgt 6th Inniskilling Dragoons 1901 South Africa.
    2, Officer 8th ( Royal Irish ) Hussars 1891 Norwich.
    3, Farrier Sgt 5th ( Royal Irish ) Lancers 1883 Newbridge Ireland.

These Busts have been re worked by Tommi Worton from the original Sculpt by Offo.

As an extra I will try and do the Full busts of the Hussar and the Lancer whilst I have the mix's out but they will be subject of separate posts if I have time to do them.
Feel free to add your ten peneth of help in as I go along.
    Mick

Its a hard life assisting with the Spanish economy, but someone has to do it. But these little chaps should keep me out of trouble.

Thank you Marc, Yes they do look good together if I dare say so myself. The fourth and last of the Cavalry Bust 4th DG will be out after Chistmas. That will I think make a nice little set.
Phase two will start later Starting with the Irish Guards.
    Thanks again

    Greetings,

Well I thought I would try doing all three at once to start with using the common base colours. But that faild as the bloody paint dried to quick. That will teach me.
So First up is the 5th Royal Irish Lancer 1883. I have just started on the head applying the base coats to work on to give me a starter for 10.

    The Collar Dog Debate

You will note that this bust has Collar Dogs. There is a school of thought that Collar Dogs for the Cavalry were not authorised ( authorised being the word ) until 1889/1900 but were issued after the Boer War. This is true for most Regiments, However it is common knowledge that the 2nd Dragoons ( Scots Gray's) wore their eagle long before this.
I have seen photographs of the 5th dated 1884 with what appear to be Collar Dogs on the collar of the tunic but the detail / quality of the photo was not that great. Lancers especially the older Regiments being a bit more flamboyant had their own clothing regs regardless of the 1881 reforms.

Therefore I am happy that the Collar Dogs stay. If you are of a mind that I am wrong a few rubs with an emery board will take them off.

At the end of the day it is easier to take them off and to try and sculpt them on. With or without it is up to you happy modelling

About time you pulled your finger out and started splashing some paint around :ROFLMAO: The paint will dry fast where you are in all that heat while we all slowly freeze.

Seriously now  Looking forward to seeing you progress with all these on this thread and seeing them in the flesh once your back.

PS. I need some advice on laying turf when you are back :playful:

    Cheers

The Biggest problem is the heat, I have to keep stopping to take liquid on board and end up to pissed to paint.:hungover:

    Greetings.

Well a bit of an update. I have put in all the base colours so that I can see what I am looking at.
My intention now is to work from the top to the bottom in sections hopefully tying it all in as we go along and with a bit of luck bring a bit of life into it.

Unfortunately the plume will have to wait until I get back home as it was stuck into place at euro and broke off when taking it home so not wanting to tempt providence thought it best to sort out on my return.

Any tips for the next bit will be greatly appreciated.

    Greetings,

Done a little more today. I went out this morning to purchase some lead wire fore the cap lines but came back with the wrong size, to thick so out again in the morning to get the right size.
Once the Cap lines are attached I can paint them and tidy up those on the bust so they are all the same colour then start on the shadows & Highs.
