    Hi Guys

It has been suggested by Huw63 that PF should not entertain anything about recasting , here is a small poll with the ideas Huw thought .

It would be appreciated if you just answered the questions and not go into the rights and wrongs of recasting if possible , you can vote for all or just one

The poll closes in 14 day ..on 17th October

    PLEASE DO VOTE !

Recasting is a scourge, but all the comments on pF don't seem to have had any significant impact on the practice. Recasters are unlikely to bother reading comments posted here. The only role this forum has is to educate Modellers about the impact recasting has on the manufacturers and artists who make original models and rely on them for their livelihoods. This might persuade some Modellers not to buy recast figures.

keV, this poll is loaded in one direction, as already indicated some members I feel might want to see it still discussed. This poll doesn't seem to seek any alternative opinion.

I really don't see how you can interpret this poll into any form of action without adding the question.

Do you think there is a benefit in continuing to discuss recasting on the forum.

Whatever someone feels needs to be discussed will be discussed on this forum - sometimes repeatedly. All that matters for me is that every participant in a discussion is treated with fairness regardless if he shares the general "PF-correct" opinion about the topic or not.
My two cents - therefore hard to vote on this poll as it does not touch the core of recent problems IMHO.

    Hi Keith

Thanks for post ...I put this up after the suggestion from Huw as I said using the questions he said....

It's not a poll as such more a gauge of members thoughts

Thanks for your question suggestion I have used it as the first

PERHAPS the thread title should be the question and a simple Yes or No ?

    Appreciate your input

Personally I do not think this issue can be solved with a simple question requiring a 'yes or no' answer.... this topic is too charged (a bit like the recent spout of independence referenda across the world) for that. Such a question is too limiting for a forum that seeks to welcome people (both old and new), nor is it restricted to this particular hobby (hell, piracy happens in all industries across the world).

Also, closing the topic by saying 'all has been said in the past' does not help people new to the hobby - not everybody is naturally inclined to research topics pertaining negatives (most I think will initially restrict their search to helpful information as to how to do things).
The occasional rearing of this topic's head must (in my opinion) serve to continuously assist in educating the public/newbees/...(fill in the blanks) to the negatives of this way of conducting business (particularly highlighting the poor quality of the cast, as that will directly affect the quality of your work as a painter/artist).

On a personal note, I will always attempt to purchase my goods via a reliable source (retail or manufacturer), and notify a manufacturer if I see a recast advertised.
I fully understand the work and effort involved by those that creat new figures, but i also understand the cost-perspective issues highlighted from those that have to resort to purchasing these creations since they may not have / perceive to have the required skills. After all, my budget is limited, and I do need to make a choice once in a while - sometimes as harsh as do I buy this (limited production) item that speaks to my heart, or pay some bill or other and risk missing out because the entire production has been sold before I have the funds available.

Precisely, Tony! That's why I'm not against posts discussing recasting, categorically. I think good judgment should be applied, rather than to apply a zero-tolerance rule that any and all posts about recasting should be banned or deleted. I have always believed that we need to educate ourselves, and more importantly, inform the original maker where possible, because ultimately, a copyright holder has the best standing to do something about the intellectual theft.

    Prost!

    I would prefer:

ONE post here to inform membership (or/and manufacturers) and then close the thread by the mods!

We need NO DISCUSSION here about that but INFORMATION!

    Cheers

HI Martin, I understand your sentiments but it doesn't solve the problem of new modellers joining the forum who may be confused about some of the offers in the market place particularly on ebay.
Previous threads on the subject have been very helpful to such members. I think it would be a shame to lose that guidance.

Speaking personally the forum can do as it sees fit as I've stopped reading any thread that has recasting in the title. I'm sufficiently educated, careful with my money and have the morals to know buying recasts is a fools game.
I do however feel there is a need to educate people that the bargain they might be buying is not what it appears.

One final thing before any smart arse points it out, yes I know I read this thread with the word recast in the title. :)

    Hi

I seemed to have triggered off a debate. Good. Having read the opinions I see no gain to discuss wheter it happens or not, or the morality and criminality of it, but merely an introduction explaining (to new members) something on the lines of what it is, the harm it causes manufacturers and in the long term our hobby. The in that thread list where recasters are seen (at shows, in the web etc) and inform the manufacturers who may wish to take action or ignore it.

That's my though on the subject.

    Cheers

I see no advantage to constant discussion. The banner PF put up explaining the wrong of the thing is significant. Rather see the space dedicated to something positive. Not suggesting a ban of the subject as such; just no point in beating a dead horse.
