Completed Critique StuG commander GD - Alpine Miniatures - 1:16

    Hi,

It's been a while since I posted any work. I got bogged down in a couple of projects that took more modelling than painting time, such as my little Pompeii vignette. As enjoyable as these were, after a while the mojo ran out, as they say, and I pulled this half-started Alpine Miniatures figure from the ranks of grey army with the intention to do a speedy brush job and get the painting juices flowing again. Things started swiftly and here I am, 5 months later, to finally show some concrete results again. So much for my speed-painting skills.... :shifty:

Anyway, this is one of Alpine's early releases in 1:16. The sculpt by Mike Good is crisp as always and a joy to paint. I left off the left arm until I finished the upper body to keep brush access to the chest area. My main motivation to paint this one were the camouflage pants. I had always wanted to try the marsh pattern ('Sumpfmuster') and this figure offered the perfect opportunity.

As this figure is clearly dressed against the cold, a wintery setting was needed. For this I tried to get a frosted effect on a forest floor base, which was simply done by good old drybrushing a range of cold whites.

I mainly used Vallejo acrylics, and some oils for a stain on the pants.

    Hope you like him.

    Cheers,
    Adrian

very nice Adrian. Not a plug for Alpine miniatures but I do own one dozen of their 1:16 figures and each and everyone is a perfect cast. No moulding lines, no bubbles. Tremendous quality for the money spent.

It may have taken 5 months Adrian, but the superb results you've achieved prove that the time was well spent.
Everything about it is excellent, but for me, the camouflage looks especially good.

Adrian he looks great and I am sure that getting this boy completed to a high standard will give your mojo a boost, its nice to know that like myself many others painters get cheesed off and drift from one figure to another and in and out of the hobby.

Wonderful brushwork as always Adrian, in particular the camo. I also think you pulled off that frosted ground just fine. (y)

Janne, you are right, the pics turned out rather dark. They looked better on my camera display. Here are a few new ones with longer exposure. Must say it looks like I did not get the lighting 100% right, because contrast seems to have been reduced somewhat.

Thanks as well for the likes guys.

    Cheers
    Adrian

Fully agree. I have quite a few as well and all of them are perfect casts.
