I like the additions, needless to say I will be following this one. I did think about the slouch hat but thought the helmet looked the better part and we have a slouch hat latter in the series. The Bandolier amendments look good
You might want to have a look at the marks mans badge.

SKILL AT ARMS & PROFICIENCY

Crossed Rifles: Authorized in 1856. In 1881 was to be worn in yellow worsted by every qualified marksman under the rank of sergeant on the left sleeve below the elbow. By Sergeants and above it was worn above the chevrons on the right sleeve. It was worn in gold wire by the best shot in the troop (later squadron) and when worn with a crown above, it was the best shot in the regiment or depot. Sergeants wore the crowned badge on the lower left sleeve. Sergeants of the best shooting troop/squadron/depot wore the crowned gold badge on their right sleeve below the elbow. The crossed muskets were changed to more modernized rifles with magazines sometime after 1890 presumably after the introduction of the Lee-Metford.

This is what I mean. You can leave it where it is just add a crown to make him the Best shot in the Regiment.

Some of these tunics look like boy scouts with all the badges on.

I am of the opinion that all badges were cloth except for regimental badges. I thought that the brass badges came out just before WW1.
Karki is a new field for me albeit Victorian, so will get my books out later and have a look.

I have looked through my books Zilch.
I have gone through a load of photo's on the web and come up with the following so far on karki field service uniforms Boer War.

Chevrons Cloth
Long Service Chevrons Cloth
Farriers Badge. C
Armourer ( Re enactor) Cloth.

I have found some crossed Brass rifles with the Imperial Crown ie WW1 to late.

I have even found an officer wearing the bandolier upside down. Officers who'd have um.

On thinking about it unless we can find a regulation of the time. the chances of finding a picture of a Sgt of a Cavalry Reg who was best shot in the Reg, would be like looking for a needle in a haystack

I would say go with what YOU think is right and if proved wrong at a later date say Bugger and re paint.

Was the Best shot of the 6th Dragoons 1901 a Sgt ?????????????????????????

I have seen the old boy in the red tunic before,
The badge you have decided on looks like the pre 1892 one.
Are you going for Brass or cloth??

I did see one similar to that above with a date underneath which was awarded to the best shot at Bisley.

I do find it confusing they would be cloth on the tunic. but when kahki came along so did brass.
either way it will look good
