Well out of step with social media Kev, preparing to travel to Canterbury. Hence I missed all the excitement in your latest venture.
He is a very nice piece and with your adjustments more than a bit special.
Looking forward to following your fine work my friend.

    Hi Guys

Thanks appreciate the input .......spent the day with Jimbo eating biccies and on the uniform green ...a lot of fine texturing going in place .....looking not bad if I say so myself ..still lots to work on the uniform but it's getting there .

Will try and post pictures in morning

Still need to put the beading on the crossbelt again after Jimbo attacked it to reduce the depth as it was out of scale .

    Thanks for looking in

    Hi Guys

Here we go then a couple of iffy pics of the reworked belt ...Jimbo made a small mould but it was too small for my bananna fingers so I sculpted all the beads !

Also a pic of the knife

Working on the uniform textures , highs, shadows .....still

It's all sounding very exciting Kev.
I do like the the way that you use the knowledge you have gathered to cast aside to achieve a very different figure from the original.
Having seen the photos of the powder horn it will be good to see what and how you personalise it.
So many more changes as well I wish you every success in this venture.
    Very best wishes

    Looking very good Kev.
Powder horn, like all of your apostles, eagerly awaiting some scrimshaw.
Tell me are the veins on those fine hands as in the box or additions? Either way they are very effective.
So far so very good Mate

    Hi Keith

Thanks for commenting mate , the pics aren't great but the design was etched on the horn ..the lady , man and the name with date as in pictures above with painting and washes it should show up better..hopefully !!.....

It's going to be in mid air when in place on the bust in relation to the movement

As for the veins they are what has been sculpted as in the box ..

Hope to get better pics later ...uniform all finished ...working on lacework then tge shirt ,then the equipment , the hands and musket will ve added last !

    Thanks for looking in

    Hi Geoff

Been on and off my bench ...trying to get it done for Poole but not promising!

The fact that it's an all green uniform and masses of textures means a lot of careful and sow painting , facings are green as well so a slight difference from uniform .

    Thanks for looking in

    Thanks for the reply Kev.
I always think what a waste when guys spend ages on powder horns etc. only to have them hidden behind bags and water canteens and stuff. The idea of his in mid air really appeals.
Thin wash coats are a great way of getting greater depth to the piece. I am trying the technique on flesh tones but thinking how it may be applied for a velvet effect. Any suggestions great fully accepted.
    Best wishes,

Hi Keith, I find that if your lightly stipple the wet paint after applying it it gives that type of effect instead of the brushed on look.

Struth Nap, that's some mighty fine working you're doing there. How did you do the scrimshaw? Did you actually carve it?
