Now we come to those decorative and ornamental strap, which are fastened to an "Onik"-belt:

These ornamental bestraps are originally from the Caucasian mountain tribe of the Avars from the 5 to 7th century; they called them "tidschhin bghiripch" .

Thise straps symbolized a free Awar man and his rank was showed by the number of them !

Over time, this belt spread over the entire Caucasus and was worn by many of the 300 different tribes.

And the Cossacs who lived in the Caucasus took over those belts from the mountan tribes...:

Normally, an "Onik" has three straps on each side, the leather is fogged with silver or (rare!) gold ornaments...:

These fittings are mostly very old and very expensive - heirlooms!

I took this template for Markus...:

Today I have cleaned up the first three of those straps...

    ...mounted them to a cork...

    ...and primed them...:

And now - bacause of the dark primer - you can see how really fantastic the sculpt is!

    Small supplement:

When I looked at the pictures from before, I noticed that at one of the decorative straps is the small silver fitting is missed...:

But I have some modelling clay...:

    Ready...:

    Thanks Nap!!!

    --------------------------------------------

    And now:

Supplement to the supplement by a fool head ...:

If you open the box in which Markus sent me the Cossack, you can find the parts not yet installed parts (Kindjal/Dagger, Saschka /Saber and the Saber Sheath) ...:

If you fold up the foam rubber floor - there is a second set of small parts!

Markus had doubled them, probably because he knows my "punctuality" in figure-modelling...:

So I have reserves and would not have had to sculpt the missing silver fitting!

Only: I had (almost!) completely forgotten.

    Ohauerha!

From a friend, I got the tip last night to bend the ornamental ribbons, so they do not simply hang vertically, but move.

    Very good idea!

Okay, small parts away again and lamp over it - about 15 minutes long ...:

Then the resin parts are so soft that you can bend them without risk of break!

I have, however, paid attention not to exaggerate the effect. I want to show movement, but the ornamental straps should not flutter around like the lamb tails!

    We remember:
The silver fittings with which these straps were decorated are quite heavy ...:

Well so far. Now two-component glue and all six decorative straps are mounted. So the whole thing looks now ...:

    So much for today...

I started to paint the decorative leather straps!

    These colors were used ...:

The insides of the straps, which will be seen later on, are painted in plain black, as is the underside of the bust.

The outsides were held in dark brown, matching to the belt. The narrow sides have got a bright strip ...:

    An interim.

It will not be so right until the silvery ornamental fittings are painted.

    Tomorrow...!

Painted the silver Fittings at the decorative straps!

First step with "Silver Ink", second step with very thin "German Grey" to show the the beautiful engravings better...:

Looks now damn good, I think...:

The belt has become a secret main character of the bust...:

As far as I know Markus uses Epoxy Sculpt.

Lets have a look at this "Onik" belt again...:

In the middle is a buckle, with which it is closed and on the left of it an eyelet - usually also coated with silver - through which the end of the belt is put. The loose rest then hangs down freely ...:

    Markus has this sculpted exately...:

This loose belt end lies as a small part ...:

I just released it from his "fish skins", washed, primed - and then again mounted with two-component glue ...:
