I hope I'm not pointing out the obvious Kev but find a photo and paint what you see.

Which leads me to a question of my own, when you Google open mouth why is it the majority of open mouths belong to women?

There are more qualified than me to properly answer that question Nap.But I will say that is looking really good and if you can come close to the above pic I think you've got it nailed.I will use that pic as reference myself.....I think he's had his wisdom teeth removed for the rivet counters...:)

That has got to be the cue for 18th century dental experts to come forward. Also for some challenging brushwork to portray the lack of dental hygiene of the period.

Do you have the book Color Mixing Recipes for Portraits by William F Powell? I seem to to recall you do.
On page 12 there are recipes for Mouth Color Tones which would be a good starting point for adapting for inside the mouth.
If you haven't got the book I'll copy the relevant page.

Thanks Doug.....Appreciate you sending the oil/acrylic conversion chart. However, the chart is somewhat vague as it doesn't specify the acrylic brand name.I use Vallejo and reaper acrylics with some Winsor and Newton oil.But have hardly seen any acrylics that I use with colour names the same as oils.Maybe I'm missing something.Whatever the case;thanks again for the info.

    Nap,
I painted the open mouth on the 19th foot bust, mostly in shadow and not white teeth. I painted the tongue as per the photo but used burnt umber for the shadow.
    Hope that helps
