I am working on this 95th Rifle's Sergeant sculpted by Richard Almond.

Sadly Richard passed away in 1989 the age of 33.

He first worked for Seagull in London branded as Real
Models in 1977 and went on to work for: Barton Miniatures, Ceremonial Studio, Under Two Flags and His own company Almond Sculptures. A great man and a great sculptor who had so much more to offer. IMG_9135.JPG

Painted with oils throughout I still have to put a lot more work on the groundwork. Oh and unless he has a cataract I notice that he is missing an iris. It's my age you know.
    Best regards,
    Keith

    Thanks Bob.
I am never sure why but the green has come out much lighter in the photo than the mixes I laid on the figure.
    Cheers Mate

Very nice paint work on the figure, Keith! I'm still upset with myself for not picking up this kit and the Rifle Officer back when they were available. I saw them at friends house in 90's when I was visiting Wales, and like so many other figures, they dropped off of the list as new stuff came out.

Nicely painted kit. I bought this myself when it came out and mine is set with the kneeling private. Such a terrible shame about Richard Almond. A truly talented sculpter and these pieces were hefty as they are 90mm all metal, including the base. Would be great if someone could secure the rights to produce these in resin. Not sure if that would be possible though.

I painted this one long ago. I always liked Richard Almond's figure line They were ahead of their time back then quality wise. I painted many of them and still have some of them stashed away. They still hold up today.

Very nicely painted. He looks suitably rough and ready.
It's great to see these golden oldies.
They stand up so well against modern sculpts.

    Cheers,
    Andrew

This was the last one edited before his death, the kneeling one edited in 1990 by Almond Studio
The Barton range is perhaps still available here : http://bartonminiatures.blogspot.be/

My understanding is that after his passing his widow destroyed the moulds after all the stock was sold and all orders were fulfilled. Whether this is true or not I couldn't say.

As Nap did, I noticed it in Mil Mod and snapped it up. I totally missed the kneeling figure and came across it a few weeks ago when I finally started on this beauty.

    Hi Huw.
I agree it's a real golden oldie that, as many have said, stands the test of decades of time.
Pleased that you like it Mate.
    Keith

I missed the kneeling figure Jazz but have seen the matched pair since. Superb!
Speaking with Mirofsoft, He thinks that the rights may still be with http://bartonminiatures.blogspot.be/ . He is the font of all knowledge figure wise. If you remember he pulled together a register of as many suppliers as possible. It well worth visiting his website www.mirofsoft.com
    Best wishes

    Many thanks Andrew.
I am pleased that you like the rough and ready brush work.
I totally agree that they are on a par with figures cast with modern methods.
    Cheers Mate

Lovely paint job on an absolute classic. Such a shame he passed away so young as i'm sure there would have been many more masterpieces.

I do have the pair aswell as several other painted figures from the Almond range and they do still stand the test of time. I still keep a look out for the French Infantry Sargeant which I had but managed to loose somewhere(n) in many house moves...............dom

Very nice work Keith. I remember when this pair were initially released. The two bases could fit together to form an instant vignette I believe. There were some very nice figures in his range. I remember painting his Imperial Guard figure for my brother (who is a Napoleonic buff).

    Hope all is well.
