I think the price of the table is irrelevant, as long as footfall is there then they will continue to attract traders and trading space will be at a premium.

However, looking at social media today I have the answer to why numbers were so low at Euro 2016. The modelling community seems to have gone to Eindhoven this weekend in huge numbers.

So, the question is; can Euro Militaire win them back?

My personal circumstances mean that I can only do one of the major shows where it means being away for a few days, so it comes down to a coin spin between Euro Militaire and Scale Model Challenge. I do have a loyalty to Euro, but if my customers are going to Eindhoven then it seems sensible to go there.

Not that I think MyTime Media or the organisers of Euro Militaire will be sad at the loss of a little business like Tommy's War (they didn't speak to me all over the weekend of Euro until I was packing up and one came over to ask for a 'review sample' of the Yeomanry figure ).

I'm not sure which way to go at the moment, I've provisionally got hotels booked for Folkestone next year, but you can sense that the momentum is absolutely with SMC. I have no confidence that Euro Militaire will change in any significant way, in fact I've been giving them my feedback for years, but they never listen.

Sad really.

Well I made my Mind up after Euro, I have contacted the SMC to put us down for a table next year so that's it for me got to go where the customers are going. yes we have a lot of work to do checking out the travel cost and what have you but it seems to be the place to be.

Yes I do feel sorry for Euro as I have said before but this is business and if we have to travel to Eindhoven then that's what has to happen.

I know quite a few members of the White Rose club did not attend this year and more are not going next year, just look on FB and see the buzz that is going on all the names that used to come to Euro are now heading their. you can't argue with the fact that they are offering something that Euro is not.

The organisers have to take a look at what they are doing, but I think we are doing all the talking and they are not listening and so it goes on.

One last thing as I don't want this to turn in to a 'traders moan in'

I think the communication from MyTime Media before and after Euro Militaire has been telling, well the lack of it.

It's now 2 weeks since Euro, it would have been nice to have had an email saying 'thanks for attending', even if it had been a circular. After-all, they have our email addresses (and they are not slow in chasing payment - in June prior to the show!). Even better would be some contact saying something along the lines of 'give us your feedback, tell us how we can improve', we are the people who speak to modellers day after day.

I find the utter arrogance astonishing.

Sorry for the rant, but I do find it frustrating. I care about Euro and I want to see it compete with other shows in Europe.

I like your response to this ongoing dillema.Changing Euro to another time of the year, so it doesn't clash with other shows, would probably solve the problem,but no doubt that could turn into a major undertaking,but i reckon it would work IMO.
It was suggested not that long ago that having a show in York Armouries,as there was one held there many moons ago,and it was the best show i've been at.The armouries itself is an amazing place to visit as is York with plenty to do and see,not just for us modellers but whole families.For some reason it was knocked on the head.Why? God knows as it was pencilled in for June.
I would have attended in a heartbeat.I voted for Brexit and everyones buggering off to Europe

Hi Brian, It was the Leeds Armouries mate, we had it all planned out I had got a good price for the museum, the Hotels were going to do deals for the weekend. we had got a great deal on parking and the trade was behind us. then Brexit and all of a sudden that was it. Traders gave back word and said they would not take a chance on it and wanted to give Euro a chance. so that was the end of it I had to let the armouries know that it was a no go and then sit back and wonder why it had all fallen apart so quickly.

I was one of the guys who set up the first armouries show, and have to say it was a great show but a lot of politics behind the since ( from Nexus ) put paid to the future of it. I will not go into what happend but it was very sad.

The royal armouries would have been the perfect venue for the show and i'm sure if traders had kept the faith we would be looking at good future as Leeds and the armouries had so much to offer. I'm sure if some one wants to pick up the idea and run with it then i'm surer it would be a winner. for me and Roland It was a let down and we feel we would look stupid if we tied to do it again and I'm not willing to be let down again. I would help with names and info of what we had planned but others would have to shoulder the main burden.

So if people want a change of venue, and time and want to do it in a vibrant city with lots to do, great hotels, ( and for those who love shopping one of the best places to do it in) then please feel free to pursue it. then please feel free.

Perhaps it needs a new date and me personaly would like to see a new venue,especially having just seen all the pictures from Eindhoven today,reminds me of the early euro years

it wont compete while My Time Media are running it,thats a fact

I was intending to enter the competition next year for the first time ever, having been inspired by all the excellent masterpieces I saw at this years show, but unfortunately all this negative response to the show is very off putting. As ever I booked my hotel on departure and was looking forward to next years show already.

Don't let the coments put you off my friend,it's still a great show,it's just that a lot of people like myself are very concerned about the way the show is going,I will still be going next year and supporting the show as always and so will a lot of others.

Well lads,seeing we're on a negativity streak regarding Euro, i have just looked at 900 pictures on facebook from the SMC show and i'm not impressed.Firstly it looked like the show was held in an aircraft hangar,totally devoid of any atmosphere.Most of the pictures were of tanks,aircraft,cars etc,etc,and check out the table lamp lighting directly overhead the exhibits spaced at about 3 foot apart.
It didn't look like it was heaving with people neither.No doubt you'll hear all the great things about the show,but there's no way i want to go to a show that has rusty cars and a pile of captured weapons on a base in the comp.I know i wasn't there but i've been to similar shows, and having a show in a corrugated tin warehouse,is not my thing.Looks like Euro again next year.

WOW!!!!! that was a little harsh, having seen quite a few posts and had messages from friends who are their all I can say is to me it looks like I missed a great event. over 2,000 entry's and what look like good quality medals. and quite a number of top artists from all sides of modelling, says a lot about this show. which from what I've been told was very well attended.

the negativity about Euro is justified, people want change they want to bring it back from the brink. we can all be blinkerd and just hope it gets better by it's self but it will not happen period. the organisers can't even be bothered to respond to any questions and facts that have been put to them. that's how much they care.

back to the show I think the lamps on the displays seems like a good idea. the place looked modern and the trade stands seem to have had space to move and not be blocked in, atmosphere is something you make which I'm sure was in abundance their. the beer seemed to be flowing very well too.

Well I will see for my self next year as that's the place I for one will be heading then I will make my mind up then, if I think it's the show I believe it is.

The punters, the comradeship, the quality of entries, the cheerful fun of the Euro weekend has never been in dispute. The problem is the complacency of the shows owners which is only being confirmed with no communication and vague intentions.
Come on get the thumb out and provide firm commitments to the modelling community who have supported the show for decades........I've a feeling 2017 is make or break for Euro, certainly in it's current venue and its dearth of added value.

Well to me it looked like everything Euro wants to be but never will be mate. Haven't Euro opened up the show also to planes and tanks and failed miserably ?? A lot of the photos were of things we look at on Putty and Paint - you know the site with the top painters.
You could tell how many was at the show from these photos ?? Really ??
A big tin shack ?? lol It's a conference centre next to a hotel where you can get much better rates than the pit that is Folkestone.
(Telford host their show in about 3 aircraft hangers BTW and have about 10 times the traders Euro has and the punters to match).
I know you love Euro Super but honestly mate that is desperate stuff. Euro as it stands is done and I don't think it will ever receive the support its had. Time to move on.

I think when comparisons are drawn between one competition and another it's a bit like comparing apples and pears.
They are both model shows for modellers
What differs is the organisation, Euro at it's best was organised by active and passionate modellers who like us all got older and inevitably the influence shifted to the business side. Not a problem if the new organisers kept to the principles and intent of the old guard to provide the modelling world with the best possible show and competitive experience, sadly that does not appear to be the case.
SMC appears to be driven and organised by committed club modellers with a genuine passion to provide a world class event.
God willing I'm a definite for SMC next year, in respect of Euro a lot will depend on what we hear over the next wee while. OK I'm no great loss to Euro but I suspect there's more than a few thinking like me, and if the Euro cash cow dries up you don't need to be an economist to figure out what will happen.

I've wrestled myself also trough the 900 AFV pictures. I can assure you there where no less figures then AFV. The guy who put the pictures is surely not a figure modeller.
If I find the time I'm gonna put my pictures on the WWW at least on wednesday.

Well Brian, I understand your disappointment about Euro going down since many years very well, but please, do not let your disappointment blind you. In describing the Scale Model Challenge the way you did, you could not be wrong more. Moreover, what is wrong with a show combining in abundant numbers the other sides of the hobby too. We are all modelers in the first place and we can all learn from one another.

Not sure why you complain about the lighting above the miniatures either. What can be wrong showing the pieces in all their glory under adapted lighting? Is there any other major show as infamous than Euro for its bad lighting? Many years ago I remember the British contingent being exalted about the lighting in the now sadly demised Antwerp show when they saw it. It was like a revelation for them. It was done in exactly the same way as they are doing in the SMC now.

I am not connected to the SMC in any way, but I can only say that it is a fantastic show buzzing with people sharing the same glorious hobby, be it modeling cars, dioramas, AFVs, airplanes or figures. In short, it is a show we normally all crave for, modelers and traders alike.
