Perhaps some of you do recall the Tom Cruise movie, War of the Worlds that was released circa 2005. Well, when I bought this Pegasus kit, I realized I needed to see the movie again, to refresh my memory. A good thing I did. In the film, once the Aliens come up out of the ground and attack, the terrain becomes like the Christmas colours, at least here in the USA. The ground was very bright green and bright red foliage, with tendrils of red like root looking appendages all over that place; on houses, even down in the basement. Wow, it made for a very creepy looking movie. I mention this because I tried to be true to the landscape, and thus my colours for the ground are not natural, but are bright Red and Green.

I have a strong suspicion that we have many beginners who pursue this site but do not take the time to post a thread. And that is OK. But my point is that with the photo below, I trying to make a point with the novice/beginners that when you start with a project that is new territory for you, that it is best to experiment on some scap plastic to determine what the colour scheme will be. And that is what I did on a piece of sheet styrene, trying to come up with a more interesting approach of what the Alien creature would look like. Keep that in mind. Have the patience to experiment on scrap, learn the lessons before moving on to your model with paint. Ha, I learned that the hard way!
Lastly I will say that this project is not complete. I still need to deal with large seams when the head is attached to the body, and I have not painted in the mouth yet. So this is a work in progress.
Comments by you fine ladies and gentlemen, fellow Planeteers, are welcome.

Personally Rick, I prefer the musical soundtrack of War of the Worlds narrated by Richard Burton.

Your point about using scrap plastic to test your colours before you apply them to the model itself, is well made. Great advice for old and young modellers alike.

Thanks Smudger, for chiming in here with your positive comments.
Most appreciated. I have seen both film versions, and felt each one did
well with the technological situation of their eras.

Greetings, Tony: Oh my, you mentioned Richard Burton. He was in my view,
considering so many of the Welsh and English male actors of that period,
an accomplished actor, with a voice that commanded attention. I record
and watch so many of those movies from the past on Turner Classic
Movies (here in the USA). I am learning so much about the past rich film history,
particularly from the 1930 and 40s. Thank you for you kind remarks. I try to remember
the beginners, for ha ha. . . at one time I was a beginner myself. :)

Hi Ron and thank you for the kind words. Yes, I try to remember
the beginners, when I write about this hobby we all love. But you,
my friend, are way beyond a beginner. Have a great day, so good

Hi Rick (y) I've never been a fan of Tom Cruise so have never seen the film but I am a fan of Jeff Wayne's musical version.
You alien works perfectly with my own visual image. The colours are beautifully balanced and handled and create a slight discomfort for the viewer, being ......well .....creepy.
    Cheers

If you've not seen the film, you are a lucky man indeed, went to the O2 in Manchester to see Jeff Waynes version live, first class, have dvd as well.

Hello Derek and thank you for the positive comments. I'm not familiar
with the musical version by Jeff Wayne. But I do love all kinds of music!
I was concerned about those stark colours and am glad that you sense
the creepiness that I am trying to achieve. Have a great day, Rickster

Good morning, Chris and thank you for having a look-see at this
    creepy dude. Kansas Kid
