You mean the part that others from Glasgow can't understand. That's the one ;)

I see you are starting off with an easy piece from 'Youngs'.:eek:.

Far from starting off. Been painting since the mid '80s. This'll only be my third bust and first historical though but I've been doing research and will be taking my time with it.

I did not mean this in a derogatory sense. Many of us have experience in other fields of modelling prior to figures.

What I was trying to convey, was this 'Samurai', would be no easy task , for a third bust. That is all, nothing else. :wideyed:

Also residing in, Nth East London.:)

    Regards,

    Mark.

Don't worry, I didn't take it as derogatory and I know what you mean with this kit. 31 bits in total so will be a huge learning curve for sure. Especially figuring out the stages so I don't block areas from my brush. Then there's tiny details like the sword guard. It's exciting and intimidating at the same time.

Sorry I am late in passing a comment,
    I overlooked your post somehow.

A nice selection in your photos there, I look forward to seeing your samurai progress.

    Welcome

    Cheers peedee.

I've managed to start on the cleanup which is quite intensive due to all the parts and wanting to do as good a job as I can. Thinking of going with this plinth from SK Miniatures too though need to create a label of some kind though that can come later.

Not a clue why that pic rotated itself though.

Thinking of using this pic for skin reference too once the painting begins.

Nice combination of figure and base that.

Its also good that you use reference photos.
    It's a great support method.

It's not actually something I usually do but seen as I've not done historical, a bust this realistic, or Japanese skin, I think having as much visual reference as possible is going to be vital.

It's worth noting that Japanese skin tones were, and are, quite varied. Something to do with the mongoloid setters interacting with the aboriginal ainu peoples. Early European explorers considered them a Caucasian race, so photo references of the tone you're after will be a great help.

    Thank you.

May have more than one bust on the bench. Just can't show all my projects due to some competition rules

Found a different reference. Koji Yakusho. Slightly lighter skin tone but I think more fitting. Helps that he was amazing in 13 Assassins too.

Many thanks Mirosoft. Always useful to have options. Also shows how lighting and photo editing can affect skin tone.
