This saved the day last year at Edinburgh aerodrome " it still has to grow up"
when the cabin baggage goons got hold of my model case, this way up mia non capisco .

you can tilt the case to 45 deg even with a pegaso 75mm mounted fig '"the legs will give before the base comes loose"
Resin figs will stay put even at 90 deg , with the dowel system and blue tac at four corners .

Thumbnail.jpg Simple stuff the longer the dowel the bigger the angle will hold

I thought of doing something similar. But I was looking to improve on the allowable tilt angle. What about using magnets? Either in stead of or to supplement the wooden dowel. A good rare earth magnet (or two) will hold on tight and might even let you turn the base upside-down.

Just use bluetack and the case can be used as football. No drilling required.

Nice and simple, should work well. I do something similar, though after I drill the holes in the figure's base I tap them. That way I can screw the figures directly to the board. Doesn't require too much extra effort (you can buy a hand tapping kit for around $30 or probably cheaper if you just get the one size you'll be using). And with the board secured in my case, I can rotate those figures around 360 degrees.

I make my own bases and add a brass threaded insert to the bottom of the base.
You can transport the figures this way even upside down if you wish.

My travelling to shows is only by car and I find the 'Really Useful Boxes' (purchased at Staples) the best form of transport.
This is because I make a separate card box, tailored specifically for each of my models. The square format makes it very easy to fill the travelling box without endangering the individual models. I can even lay the boxes on their sides, providing the model isn't too heavy or complex. Packing away at the end of the show is simplicity itself.
It also gives me the added advantage of safely storing any models that are not on display.
Here's a couple of boxes that illustrate the versatility :-
