This is a really very nice piece, I would stain the base a dark cherry colour if it were mine since I feel the light wood detracts from the beautiful figure. Maybe the same colour as the chair back would work well.

Thanks for the advice John. I would probably have gone that way too but this wood is already finished light and the base was perfect for size. A large dark label on the front may help reduce the light wood impact. I may paint the base...possibly gloss black.

You know you can stain wood with oil paint so you could go for a match to the chair back. Anyway which ever way you go this will still be a remarkable piece of work.

I do not know what to say, its way above my league but I like the bust you have sculpted and beautifully painted it most certainly is.
I wish my brushes would do the same, I am getting there but no where as close.

Got a few minutes with Paulee today ( a rare thing). This guy is going multi media. I originally painted him in acrylics and inks, then went over him in oil. Now he has been dull coated and I am selectively adding acrylics to him here and there. His face has had some Life Colour acrylic washes put over the oil (mid to highlights only - shadows to come). I highlighted his brows and 'stache with a new pro high viscosity paint I just discovered. Nice to see that the acrylic, whether high viscous or washes) does well over the Tamiya clear coat. I can never decide whether to paint a big bust in oil or acrylic as I like properties of both...this approach solves my problem.
