    Hi Kevin,
When doing the crosses and ribbons remember the picture of Albert Ball we used to create the bust from is an oddity in itself.
As it is very unusual to have both the ribbons and the medals on at the same time. But this is clearly the way he was wearing them in the picture..
Look forward to seeing the bust once you have re-added the detail.

    Hi John,

Indeed you are right , very unusual to have both ribbons and medals as well at the same time , I will make more definition between them and bring the crosses onto the tunic ( mainly to stop my clumsy fingers breaking them..lol )

The DSO ribbon is long as well , as in the picture

I will put both busts together when at shows so wanted them same size medals ..visually better for me !

    Will post more when done

  6. Hawk,

Nap and yourself have rekindled fond memories of playing Red Baron and Blue Max on the pc back in the early 90s. Truth be told, I liked the book it they came with more than the games. I agree completely with your analogy (canvas covered lawnmowers). These guys were mucho brave. Going to re-familiarize myself with some of the Aces and watch the BBC special you referenced. BTW, amazing work on all of your sculpts. Seems like all the cool figure stuff/stores are always on the other side of the pond!

  7. Hey Nap,

Going to look in my closet this weekend. I might have this or something very similar. My mom had this patch mixed in with her mementos...I never knew what it was or where it came from. Going to try to track it down and post a picture.

    Thanks,

    Hi Kev.
Would I be right in saying in this era the medals would only be worn with the ribbons as shown. On highdays and holidays or photo shoots.
It was my understanding that Medals were worn on No.1 Dress, Ribbons on No2 Dress etc.
I know now days due to finance cuts some Units don't have what I call No 1 dress (tunics) and medals are worn over the ribbons so they are not
    noticed.
But they are looking good whatever the reason.

Mick that's a good question its my thought that you are right having ribbons above the actual full medals for photo shoots , medal presentations etc

I have seen No 1 dress ( Blues ) with just ribbons and with just medals ...certainly an interesting thing ...sure there is something in Kings ( as it was then) and Queens dress regs now

Thanks for the comment about the rework

Kev, My Old dad was in 2nd CG. 38 to 78 He only ever wore his medals on his tunic, and ribbons on his blues and khaki . I never recall seeing him with his medals worn on Blues etc. But in recent years I have seen Medals worn with Khaki. Things they are a changing.

    Hi Guys ,

    Update!

Kept looking at the Cross of St George comparing with picture of Albert ....it was too high up about 5mm......so ....

    Off it came !

Now in same position in relation to the MC cross!
