    Hello Folks
I have had this bust, sculpt by Pete Morton, with the plan to complete it to a full figure for some time. I was working with kind help and support of Pete on the finer points of the Royal Fusiliers in 1812.
Sadly lovable naughty boy Pete passed away before the piece was close to finish.
At this point I shelved the work until last week when I dusted it off and rekindled my enthusiasm to progress further.
Still only a work in progress I hope that you like it thus far.
    All the very best,
    Keith

Quality work Keith, the detail on the inside of the shako and the Heraldry on the drum is amazing .
    Great.

Very pleased that you like the smaller details Mick. It was awkward enough sculpting the outside of the shako let alone the interior.
Many thanks for taking time to view and comment Mate.
    All the very best,
    Keith

    Excellent work Keith.
I knew what stand out parts I was going to comment on when I was viewing the photo's and then scrolled down and saw Mick had already singled out the shako lining and the drum, oh well I'm still going to say they are the details I like best. (y)

The face is superb and as others have said the smaller details make this look fantastic.
Well done for picking it up again.

It matters not on the timing Roger.
I am made up that someone who works on 30 mm fine detail says nice things about my 200 mm scale efforts.
Many thanks my friend as always I value your views.
    Cheers,

    Cheers Bob,
Pete's work on that face was a gem to paint. His definition was so crisp it all but pulled the blending into place.
I have been working from a book published by the NPG. where the oils are painted on in very thin glazes. It works very well but takes more time of course. CRF on pF first put me on to this, Colin uses this to great effect.
Many thanks for your kind comments Bob, always good to hear from you,
    All the very best

    Keith,

Hope all is well. This looks fantastic. What scale is the figure? I love the heraldry on the drum, you've really nailed this. Are you using the same limited palette that you've used on recent figures?

Thanks Keith, I have painted in oils for years but only recently changed my method. I think it was some one on here or read it some where else. They paint the flesh coat in oil, then leave overnight to dry out slightly. Then do the shade and highlight. It seems to work for me and I am getting better with this method.

    Hi Pete,
Yes all is well here. We have just bought a 10 week old puppy who is eating his way through the house so my studio looks more like a warehouse.
I too hope that every thing is good with you?
I am pleased that you like this 200 mm conversion from a one armed bust into a full figure. I am still using a five colour pallet but I think that I may use gold and steel for the metals. I will see how I am when I get to the bright metals. The other thing is that like everyone I have shed loads of paints. I may have to break from the small pallet on a set of ten canvases of household division subjects from 1834. I know that will make your ears prick up so more of that later.
Thanks again for your continued support of my efforts Pete I am always pleased when you are on board.
    All the best

Wet on semi wet is great with oils. I keep trying acrylics but always end up with it as a base coat. I do like the slow drying aspect of oil......like your good self.
    Good painting Bob.

Many thanks Kevin for your generous comments.
Sorry on two counts Mate; Acrylics.....dry far to quickly for my slow pace and not finding a pre 1811 gong.
    Must do better.
    All the best,
    Keith
