I have just knocked up a couple of bases to represent cobbles and old paving to get an idea of the layout for the Dutch Red Lancer (already on V Bench ) One is Paving and Cobbles and made from grey tile grout . The other one is Paving , Sets (that's the brick like area for drainage ) and pebbles . This is made from DAS air dried clay and grey tile grout . I used the DAS for the paving slabs , sets and a thin area where I wanted the pebbles . As the pebbles where set in puddled clay I coated this area in a thin coat of grout and pressed in pebble shaped DAS clay pebbles I had made earlier . I will be trying out different colours on schemes on these bases and then I will no longer need them . They will give a 75 x 75 mm mounting are . So if anyone wants them they are free + postage .

Have you tried split lentils Chippy?

I remember reading an article many years ago covering cobblestones and the split red lentils looked spot on. Not tried them myself though, the opportunity just hasn't presented itself.

Nice looking cobblestones and paving! I like even more the idea of using crown block wood as a base on which to mount the cobblestones! Cool!(y)

    All the best,
    Dan

Eludia now you mentioned it I remember that article . I think the advice was to varnish them to stop them rotting . I have always had a fear of vegetables, lentils in particular as I might end up like this[IMG]
But really it doesn't take that long to roll out a few balls of clay in different sizes , probably quicker than driving there and back to the supermarket
That's because I am old school mate or as I remember you once referred to me once "a cheap skate " Yeap I like modelling on the cheap . As I'm not the most of brilliant painters I like to twiddle around in other areas of modelling .
Thank you Dan for you comment
