You won't be saying that when you're being carried out of the house on a stretcher like that. :smug:

Time to catch up after a short trip to the UK. This thread is very interesting in terms of age and interests.

I've worked in IT for 30 years initially programming, then network support, then project leading and management, operational management and when I got made redundant in 2003 I chose the field of Project Portfolio management. I work as a Project Portfolio manager though my job goes next summer as the firm has decided to move some people to other countries and will make some (who coincidentally are all over 50) redundant. My "gardening leave" should start in February and then I will be on paid absence until the end of the summer when I get a small pay-off. I'm not sure what I would like to do next as I'm a bit too young and not wealthy enough to retire.

It was luck that I got my first computing in the 1970s at school and that allowed me to make a career of it. I took a business and science degree rather than history (it seemed wise at the time but probably it wouldn't have made too much difference). History is a passion in any event and also languages are very important being of a nomadic disposition (I speak 4 though my spoken French is massively out of practice). Other passions of mine are choppers (motorbikes you rabble), rock music, follwing Cardiff City football club (soccer) and I've always had a bit of problem with authority when it doesn't make sense... oh yes I have no dress sense beyond jeans, boots and t-shirts, hoodies etc.

    Cheers

I started out building cars, welding, panel setting and the like, worked for rover/mg and rolls royce. Then for BMW as an ultrasound technician, which was basically 5 years of inventive skiving. Nowadays you can find me quietly glazing ophthalmic lenses (I make specs), whilst thinking about paint. And varnish. And more paint.

Good Lord - that is a beast!

I trained as a print minder after leaving the Ambulance service (spent 11 years in the trade before taking redundancy).

I have dedicated my life to finding the perfect job that pays well for not doing very much at all. Naturally I started my quest in the military before dabbling a little bit in IT and now I drive about and drink tea in other people's houses all day whilst always keeping one eye on the clock for knock off time (occasionally I fix telephone lines, or install broadband in between cups of tea).

My aim is to stop working at 55 (at least full time), 10 years to go. As you can probably guess, I absolutely detest working for a living but, unfortunately, it is a necessary evil if you want enough coinage to do the things you really want to do.
