The Model Cellar would like to announce our newest figure - 1/24 scale Manfred von Richthofen. Sculpted by Mike Good, the likeness is spot on. The details are clean and crisp as usual. The figure was designed for the new 1/24 scale Fokker DR.I from Merit Models. However, at a comparable 75mm, the figure would make a great little vignette too.

One could be a bit cynical and ask if the world needs another von Richthofen figure. But when I see one as good as this, the figure answers for itself.
This is an example of some superb sculpting. I don't think there's anyone around who renders hands as we ll as Mike does, along with his capture of clothing textures as well.
This is a hit figure, I think we'll see a few of these.

Brilliant sculpting - the clothing looks so natural and the likeness very good too. Lovely figure.

Thanks to everybody for the kind comments! I am pleased that you all like him. Personally, I think this is about the 6th or 7th time I have done Richthofen! But the scale is new and it offers a full figure of him in a larger format.

Paul is jumping the gun a bit on this one. I only mailed out the finished sculpt on Monday!

For reference, here is the somewhat lesser known photo that this pose was taken from. He is seen with squadron mate and friend, Kurt Wolff. I Wish i had had this larger, higher quality image when I was sculpting him! I only found it this morning.... :

Now that's one very nice figure . Now I don't know how much difference the is between 75mm or 1/24th and 1/28th scale is but Revell do a very nice 1/28 th Focker at a very reasonable price . What a great combo it would make if they matched up without to little size variations .

Sorry Chippy, but I do not subscribe to the philosophy of mixing scales. As the first post pointed out, a 1/24th scale triplane is imminently available.

But, to put this in perspective: 1/28th scale is actually closer to 1/32nd scale (54mm) than it is to 1/24th scale (75mm = 6 ft.). If you put a 1/24th scale figure next to a 1/32nd scale figure, you will see that there is quite a large difference in size. 1/28th scale falls directly between the two but is closer to 1/32nd scale because the size differential goes up exponentially as the numerical scale gets smaller.

Bottom line: this figure is not at all compatible with the ancient Revell kit. But, why bother when there is a kit in the right scale available?

Heads-up to model builders: The Merit kit has some gross errors - the wrong engine being just one of them. However, I have collaborated with Barracuda Studios to produce a correction kit for the Merit model which is quite good once the boo-boos have been corrected. Their kit will be available sometime toward the end of there year.....

You know Mike as soon as I logged out I knew I was wrong . It's like trying to mix 1/35th scale figures with 54mm . The reason I look to cheaper kits like Revell is my family are always asking what they can buy me for Christmas and I don't want them spending large amounts of money on Specialist kits . I buy the figures they buy the other stuff . I'm in the process of getting together models for the Mash TV show opening shot . Helicopter, Jeep and figures . To date this has come out at under £ 50.00, you can't buy a 90 mm figure for that and I'll get months of model building .

Just had this sent through by Paul, nice figure, Mikes sculpting is cracking as usual. It would be interesting to know the exact time this photo was taken, as it looks like it was before he was shot down the first time 7th July 1917, as he does not have the head bandage, although it would be hard to see on a smaller image. The item of clothing that he is wearing under jacket is interesting, it looks to be woollen, I would like to take a look at this type of garment.
