    Hi all,

I would like to try and sell some models on ebay, so I got an ebay account and went to create a Paypal account, I have never had one, but they want my date of birth in the details to create it.I am very wary about giving my date of birth to a buisness like that, and was always told not to give your date of birth on the internet.

Just wondering what the general feeling is to this, and see if others here think it is safe or not?.....should I be worried about it?

I know millions of people have probably had to do it, but I am very paranoid about things like this with identity fraud so rife these days.

Any opinions will be much appreciated!

Hi Jeff, I think Paypal is relatively safe as far as things like that go....and let's face it we're all being watched, monitored and our actions documented from so many different places these days it can't make much difference anyway.

Give them a false birthdate if you're concerned about it....I've done that on plenty of sign up pages.

I have a Paypal account and it's very convenient and worthwhile,......BUT be aware that once you do have one you will regularly receive scam emails from arseholes pretending to be Paypal....with email addresses such as Paypal inc or Paypal@e paypal com or similar which are bogus addresses which always have a highlighted link in the email which lends one to headache and heartache no doubt.

Yeah, I was looking at that, but I read that you can have problems if you have any disputes with them.

    Thanks again Mark,

Touch wood, I've found it excellent for transferring funds. I'm no "tecchie", but it's served me well. Make sure you have a strong password.

With Paypal you will have to give full information to open an account including your bank account details which will be linked to the account, once you open the account Paypal will make a small payment into the bank account you supply and ask you to confirm the amount, this imperfectly normal and to prevent fraud/money laundering. It does seem a bit overwhelming at first but once up and running is easy, just regard it the same a you would your bank account and watch for anyone trying to scam you via e-mails. Paypal will always use your full name in the content of the e-mail, if it says for e.g 'Dear Paypal User' its a scam.

Paypal is a reputable service. But doesn't PlanetFigure also require you enter a date of birth? ;)
