    Hi Friends on pF,
Arrived at our little Caravan in the UK on Tuesday, first job make sure that my casting from CGS Figures survived the drive.......tick in the box all is well. Next think "the casting is OK and out of the box why not make a start".
I will start by saying that this sculpt is amazing and the quality of the cast is superb, well upto the high standard that comes as a given from Gra at CGS.
The bust is PV01 French Infantry 1796 is a 1/9 scale bust sculpted by Pavol Ovecka, The detail of the wear and tear is very well defined for the painter to make great display piece.
Unusually for me I have started this using Pebeo Artist Acrylics with a limit of five tubes.black, white, red yellow ochre and blue.
Here are some terrible photos of my progress so far. I hope that this gives a good example of the work that these two fellows have put into this piece.
    Very best wishes,
    Keith

    Superb start Keith (y)

I love the skin tones and also the greys on his bicorn. How are you finding the acrylics?

What red and blue are you using, just for interest? :)

    Hi
Thanks for looking in and taking time to comment.
I am sure that you will find this piece a real joy to paint.
My usual pallet is oils too and has worked well for 30 years. The acrylics here is a change for me to use then as the base for the oils to finish.
    Best regards,

Hello my still in the RWC friend:mad:.
Very kind words Daniel, thank you.
I got these tubes from the art section a French DIY store. I know that their products are available in the UK, I will check out what Countries they supply.
I am having great enjoyment painting this fellow and although a bit large for your normal figure from this period you should get one Mate. CGS offer free world wide delivery too I think.
    Best wishes,

    Thanks for looking in Billy.
I am pleased that you like my start on this super piece.
The bicorn is a mix that I often use (in oil till this point) to offer the impression of weather beaten felt. It is a base of black all over. Then gradually adding red and on the final highlighting yellow. All of this is for the felt only. The silk edging would not discolour the same through weathering, so this I did in grey tones.
The red is deep cadmium and the blue is indigo.
How are the acrylics...I think that this piece will eventually be finished with oils as washes/glazes but I will stick with them as the base coats. Mostly because the dry so quickly without a light box.
I hope that this is of some use to you Mate.
    All the very best,

just one letter away how spooky. I am just your bog standard fool.
Normally I cannot just put a kit together but being away fromy cave limits my putty pushing.
So it will be just paint plus any little additions in weathering that I See.
    Cheers
