    Hello folks,
New patient on my work bench. This is a figure i've got on ebay and is (i believe ) a recast of Pegaso French foot dragoon 1805 which i am converting into a 1786 dragoon.
I cut the mane from the helmet and pumpkin on , shortened the lenght on the collar .
Still lots of filing and sanding but this is an easy conversion, the coat coat and shape is right, the turnbacks are accurately the same as the 1786, and lapels are still narrow as the earlier napoleonic period.
The only challenge i will face is painting the green coat, not really my favorite and easiest color to paint.
    Cheers 20151004_202009.jpg 20151004_202042.jpg

Sure looks like a recast to me, I think you got jobbed! Dreadful cast, in fact horrid I guess you got what you paid for. Throw this clunker into the casting pot and buy the real deal Pegaso figure to do your conversion.

If this is representative of the recast market, I don't think manufacturers have much to worry about.

Yeah, they have nothing to worry about these crappy recast.
I realized i made a too quick desitikn to buy the figure without looking at details or specifications, the figure has a lot of bad casting flaws...buy since i have it bere i'll just nake the best of it.
Already decided to chop the head, clipped the helmet off and added a spare head i had.
Worked on the wig and modified the collar.

Oh well the mistake has been made but you might as well see what you can do with it Daniel. I think major surgery was the only answer to get a decent figure out of this.

you bet, i already started surgery this weekend.
I will see the results, if i am not happy with it i will get rid of it and get the real figure from Pegaso.
    cheers

Marquismini is a figuriniste I like, passionate and enthralling.
He loves and knows the period of the French "ancient régime" better than some french.
It is a pleasure to follow his posts.
Again thank you for this wonderful work, based on solid documentation.
Impatient to see the figure finished.(y)

If there's the soul of a good figure in there. then it's worth the extreme improvement works that can be required. Could be a good SBS here, dealing with the serious surgery and the micro-detailing needed to make it worthwhile. Go for it, keep us informed.

My concern Daniel is do you have enough paint for such a large figure?
Seriously though I think that you have a lot of work to put life in to this bad boy.

I think there is potential, and i really enjoy the work and transformation on a figure.
I have done conversions on a coue of hard to mod figures before.
I am just dissapointed at myself for buying something i tought it was a used unwanted original figure from pegaso and it's not, it's a copy and i don't like the fact that some people will try to do that with brands and sell it.
I saw it and did not doubt a second to hit the but it now button.
Anyhow, my bad and i will make the best of it.
    Thanks for passing by :)

    Almost finish with the helmet.
Fixed the crest a little with brown stuff, then added the mane with green stuff.
Also worked on the skin around the helmet.
I lenghten the edges of the vest since in 1786 those were a slightly longer .
They progressively became shorter as the years go by.

I kept working on the helmet today and by doing more research i realize the long mane on the back was in use for earlier period, so i clipped off and rebuilt the mane this time with shorter end.
I sculpted back one of the cross belts and fixed some details on the back.
The figure it's ready to be primed 20151007_231902.jpg 20151007_231923.jpg 20151007_231930.jpg

Well, the raw casting may not have been top-shelf, but your modifications really improve it. I look forward to seeing your progress.

    Prost!
