    Proxy entries at shows :(

A lot of modellers go to some considerable expense to get to a show and enter competitions only to get pipped at the post by someone who cannot be arsed to show up.

For me its turn up and enter or don't bother

I don't have a problem with friends taking along a few figs for someone who is sick, poor or working. Its a bit harder to take if an agent is taking pro figures around the European circuit and entering them. Not sure that really happens though. At least attendees get to see more figs and organizers get more revenue.

Also, I guess its the only way some modellers will ever have a chance of entering a prestige international show like Euro.

While I see your point Ron, I think on balance I am in favour until the practice really starts to get abused.

Having never entered a competition am I qualified to reply???
I agree 100% with your sentiment. But just to add to the controversy .
If you spent 6mths + leading up to a show putting together your latest work, all ready to go transport and hotels booked. On leaving the house fall arse over tit waving good by to the Mrs. You save the model but break a leg. You cant travel so Del offers to take model to enter into the show. Allowed or Not .

I'm guilty of this, some of my figures have been to Ingolstadt among other places because people have offered to take them. However it wasn't done in the search for medals and publicity which is what I think you're hinting at Ron.

Well its always nice to see more figures so that is a plus. On the other hand if its just someone who are chasing prizes and does it a lot of times with many entries, then its a minus.

You can also see those guys dropping of their stuff, make a fast round at the vendors table and are not to been seen until the prize award cermony?
Same thing for those that show their work here to be praised but never post anything else and neither comment on others work?

Theres a difference between being a good modeller and a good mate.

Not much different IMO than my pet peeve of those who post stuff here to fluff their resumes but never actually take part in the site or contribute anything of interest, or anything at all.

There's quite a few fellow Planeteers here who live on the other side of the planet and take advantage of one or two fellow modellers who are attending shows in Europe simply because of the cost of getting there..........and indeed they win some awards.
Are they committing some offense against English figure modellers?.....sounds like a very parochial attitude to me.
If they attended but didn't win awards would they be more welcome?...see what we can do to make them shitty entries for you.

Although I do share a bit of the sentiment, I don't think the practice is a bad thing, even if done en masse. There's more figures to see for attendees and beef up the event, and more people have a chance to see 'famous' pieces.
And as long as the judging is based on points, rather than 1st, 2nd, 3rd, no attendee will lose out.

I have never entered anything when not attending myself, but I can imagine to do so some time for major events like Euro. Although I've been wanting to go for many years there's always something that keeps this from happening, yet I would be curious to see how my figures would do.
I hope you don't dislike me now Ron....!? :)

That was not the point Mark , A well known member from Japan made an extreme effort to get to Euro and if i were him I would be well upset if some local chap posted by proxy and and pipped at the post .
I am well aware of the vast distance some modellers would need to take , even further than your land :)
of which one done very well indeed this year .

Ron don't forget relatively few figure competitions operate a First, Second, Third nowadays. With the 'open' system there's no pipped at the post issue.

I think in keeping with the spirit of accepting migrants, you should accept any entries that people bring into the Show.:p
