Paint your house???? Oh my gosh . . . we are now talking
about your physical safety. . . as Number One. Please be

Hope you use a bigger brush on the house or it will take forever but it will look fantastic.

Its OK we are talking interior. Just a room at a time with modelling in between. I am thinking Admiral Nelson next but no decision.

Colin, why don't you split the difference and paint a miniature of your house?
Well done, he looks greay and I'm glad you got straight back on that horse (y)(y)(y).

I just posted a very good research piece on French Napoleonic blue dyes with colour swatches under the research section. Saw it on Facebook this morning. I will post the link here as well.

Thanks for that link Colin, Now all we do is sort out how our PCs see the variations of colour.
This has been a hot topic on all reenactor sites and not only Napoleonic.

    Great work Colin,
You know my thoughts on what you have achieved here and I can only congratulate you on completion.
The Nelson sounds good. I have just received the two 'Nelson' volumes by Dr John Sugden. I thought that I knew quite a bit about Horatio but this guy has raked through previously unseen documents and letters.
Very well done on this sculpt and paint, looking forward to your next venture.........not the interior decoration you understand.
    All the very best,

The last bust of Nelson I did was about 3 feet high and weighed 120 kg. It was a toss up which collapsed first, the clay or the table:).

This is just great...it almost looks like a painting. Great! In youre flesh mix you use Mars Orange is that the same as Mars Orange Red i looked for this color at my local art-supply shop...they have almost every brand but i only could find MOR.

Jan-willem - mine are old Gamblin tubes that seem to be discontinued although I think Gamblin still does Mars Orange dry pigment. I think Holbein has a Mars Orange in their range but it might be hard to find too. Not sure about Mars Orange Red.

Here is Old Holland's Orange Red. Looks like it could work with a less cad red mixed in...

My kids want me to have a crack (no pun) at sculpting full size library busts. Seems a little daunting. :) i have never sculpted anything bigger than about 1/5.

Its good paint IMO. I love their sepia.

Also be aware that the pictures I posted were shot under a combination of daylight windiw light and incandescent light bulb so they appear to the camera a bit more orange than to the eye. I will post a pure daylight photo of his face if that would assist with getting a feel for the flesh mix....perhaps later today.

This is how he looks in the harsh light of day with no artificial help (note that a model is rarely if ever viewed under these conditions) . This may give a better idea of the raw skin tones used.

Nice thing about unleashing a macro lens on a miniature is that it shows you all the clean up you still need to do when you thought you were done LOL :)

Colin, you ought to give it a try. There are a lot of good videos on you tube that will get you going, you'll be surprised how much you learn working full size in clay using your thumbs as your major tools. the only difference with clay is that you have to keep it covered in damp towels and hollow it out before firing, but that sounds more daunting than it actually is :). Check out you tube and see what you think?
