Here is my completed portrait of Lannes as he might have appeared just prior to his death from wounds suffered from a cannon shot at Essling in 1809. Lannes was one of the Emperor's favourites. He was referred to by Napoleon as a paladin and he was one of the few senior officers invited to address the Emperor with the familiar form of address.

The model is an original piece, about 1/6 scale sculpey firm. If you have followed my WIPs, you will know this is my second completed attempt. I had the misfortune of melting the first one in a disastrous attempt at paint removal. This one is painted entirely in oils. I tried to replicate the style of a Georgian portrait painter while working in 3D. For example the gold uniform lace and metallic awards are painted in the NMM manner often seen in portraits of Napoleonic officers. I think I am falling into a favourite subject, media and style. Lots of officers yet to do :)

Excellent work Colin, especially following your setback. What is the NMM manner you refer to?

Hi Scotty. The Napoleonic Marshal's habit coat, and hat etc. were embrodered with gold thread. So were some of the award plaques. I copied the portrait painters' way of reproducing these textures and colours with non-metallic paints. For example:

    Colin this is a triumph.

I had every faith in your determination to complete this.

You also mentioned Before Colbert about your methodology for the paint technique.

To say it's all come together well would be a ridiculous understatement.

This is magnificent, as an observer, it's been so worth waiting to see the unveiling.

    Congraatulations mate.

Special thanks to Pierre Hofmans (Akaryu) who commented that I had the baldrick too narrow. Constructive criticism that resulted in a much better result :)

VERY nicely done Colin! I like this one a lot. Well done on overcoming the adversity of "melting" the first one.
