Hi bob my approach would be to make a test mix of the mid tones of each colour, then simply darken them and use that as a base coat.
So for scarlet add a touch of green and watch it go, then highlight with scalet and a touch of flesh.
Dark blues, add a touch of black and highlight with blue and a touch of ochre
Dark blue trousers, highlight from black with a touch of blue.
Black, under paint blue, build up washes with black, highlight with earth/ochre.

Mostly I would be drooling over the number of kits like a gibbering buffoon.

Mark. Yes I'm pleased the way the tartan came out. plus it was my first tartan and first 120mm. Believe it or not I had more trouble with the hose. So what have you decided to back up against and wiggle. The 120mm German jobbie or something smaller.

I remember doing an an article for military modelcraft international on how to paint tartan,in the 90's.

Ralph. As said, I didn't have to much of a problem with the tartan as it was just one item. it was the hose that were a b............ As you would do one and it looked good. but when tring to get the second one to be a matching pair was when it went tits up.

Both bodies have been submerged in Rons tip Dettol as I have made a right B---s of them. QUESTION. How long should they be confined to there watery grave.

if there's no rush leave it til the morning.

I think I'd be impatiant enough to see "how it's going " after tea though,

you can always pop it back in the mix if it's not ready

Collar and Cuff details Coldstream Guards 1852



The blue collar, in this sketch, has an embroidered garter star with an oval pewter button in the middle. This would have saved much time and work on embroidery as the words HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE would have had to be sewn for each badge. The same applied to the skirt ornaments which had small round buttons. Officers collar badges and skirt ornaments were fully embroidered in silver, gold, red and blue wire.

The tartan is excellent. You could tone down the eyes a touch - I would paint a very thin line under each eyelid to reduce the size of cornea and pupil.
