I've just had look back through your works, and I can assure you that crap didn't get a look in. Each piece of work was excellent and inspiring to all of us.
I put it down to Murphy and Sod ganging up on you. Don't let those bastards grind you down.
Looking forward to your next masterpiece (when you're ready).

    Cheers,
    Andrew

    Hi Colin

Bollocks I think is the politest way of saying it. I'm sure you're gutted but you can rise from the ashes for sure. What you do is unbelievable and most of us couldn't skulpt as you do in a million years. No one said it would be easy but you make it seem so and inspire people like me to experiment which is why I spent several hours yesterday stripping old figures or incomplete ones to make a fresh start on them.

Remember that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

    Cheers

Thanks gents. I'm probably not in need of psychoanalysis. SWMBO has already declared my period of mourning over and told me to "just go and make another one!" Nothing like a dose of reality from the controlling shareholder :)

I hate to say it but she's right. The boys in the SWOFC won't let you rest until we see the start of a new head.

Too bad Colin! Never give up though, the favorite expression of one of the greatest Dutch king was "It is not necessary to hope to undertake, nor to succeed to persevere!". If I may offer one tiny advice, blue in oils being a tricky beast at times, the best cure for shiny blue is patience, patience and more patience and at times a slight shadowing/ highlighting wet on dry . As I never participate in shows or competitions, my motto is 'Don't paint for the next club meeting, paint for eternity!'
Best of luck Colin, you've got the admiration of the whole figure community!(y)(y)(y)

That is a pity indeed Colin but you're too good to stop. I look forward to your next piece of Art.
Good luck and don't forget to ditch that paint stripper in a lead box in a shallow grave somewhere.
    All the best
    Scotty.

Thanks for the encouragement. Lannes #2 is well underway. I don't think I will post any WIP shots until I am confident that he will be worthy of his ancestor :)

Likely not as my daughter wants to do family birthday at lunch tomorrow - apparently only time we can get the herd together.

Thanks Andrew. Close but still quite different. I used a combination of oil portraits and a medallion profile of Lannes to do the second one. I didn't refer to the first head except for a quick size check when I started. I was quite pleasantly surprised to see how close they were when I compared them.

That's about as close as you can get to a copy to my eye. Wow.

But... With the two heads with the black eyes on the torso... Creepy! Thanx for the nightmares brother

Sory to miss the meet. And we did do a birthday lunch for daughter number two. So I preserve the goodwill of SWMBO and someone who may have a one fifth vote on choosing my nursing home.

    Sleep tight :)
