Diorama of the battle of Kohima at the IWM Duxford, Land Forces Hall. I've posted here as it relates to a recent thread by Peedee and thought others may be interested.
    Cheers Mat

Paul, yes both the model and the battle are quite something. The Japanese have the very definition of an uphill struggle ahead of them.
Look forward to seeing your interpretation.

Does the diorama represent the fighting at the District Commissioner's tennis court? Very impressive model by the way.

I believe that's right but I'm not familiar with the battle.

I'd always imagined the tennis court as a much larger space.Makes the defensive action even more impressive.

I'm convinced I've read they were 20 yards apart !
So I thought small base then I decided I'm making my version.

I assume that's the Kohima memorial in the background with the famous words quoted on Remembrance Sunday.

Yes Pete, absolutely correct, the ''Kohima address'

"When you go home, tell them of us and say....
For your tomorrow we gave our today"

Can you see the stone edge to show the tennis court alignment in the bottom of the colour photo as welll?

Yes, I see that. Your picture really gives a good impression of the claustrophobic nature of this battle. Thanks.
