A few pics of WIP, Used an old pair of Airfix Currassier legs to get a wild bouncing effect in the saddle. All the insignia and buttons placed. Made a more full beard with putty. Added buttons and sapper insignia. Entire figure has the first two coats of liquid sprue painted on to the figure, I like the way it fills small gaps and builds up the body, not to mention it keeps small bits from possibly poping off. More work on bridle and bits to be done. The reins will go into the same hand as the axe. His uniform is Dragoon green with Pink turnbacks, collar and front plastron. all of the insignia will be in red along with the epaulettes. Sword and Musket in saddle boot will be added after painting.

This is still looking great buddy,
it's so nice to see 'old school' techniques being used to great effect.
Can you tell me your recipe for liquid sprue, I know exactly what you mean ref gap filling.
(I used to call it plastic soup).

peedee : As for the "soup" . After about 30 plus years I've found that the Historex sprue is much softer than most, and that it will almost instantly melt into a usable solution using Testors liquid cement. Adding more or less, to make it thick or thin. Thick coats for gap filling and a thin mixture for coating.

I was dissolving the same lovely sprue in Mek-Pac just before I asked the question.
Thanks for the reassurance steve, we're doing basicly the same then.

By the way, there's some mighty fine and appropriate Avatars on here aren't there ?:)

Paul; Yes I love the Avatars. Mine was changed when I was looking for Legion of Honor placement on a Hussar dolman. Not only a great painting, but; I have a musician friend who could be this guys long lost ancestor. He is the spitting image of this man.

I use Winsor and Newton Winsol to melt the sprues. I bought a job lot years ago and now I'm down to my last bottle... and they seem to have stopped making it presumably for environmental or health and safety issues (it does smell nice...) and I found this to be the greatest stuff. Now I'm on the hunt for a replacement material.

Diolch yn fawr iawn. I'm a fluent first language Welsh speaker!!!

I will try to get it. Things aren't quite so easy to get here as there aren't many model shops so I rely on mail order or shows and sometimes customs can be very slow - I'm waiting for some acrylic paints from Historex which have taken nearly two weeks!!!

    Cheers

I have never heard of Mek pak. Huw , was that Historex agents? I ordered from there and my order was here in a week, and I know my house is a little further than yours .
  16. Huw63 A Fixture

Yes it is Historex Agents and I swear by them. I've usually got the order in a few days and have never has any issue at all, but recently a couple of things have taken longer so I'll wait until the weekend and then start chasing. Oh yes the delay is due to the high value of the Swiss Franc resulting in so many people importing and buying via the internet that the customes service is overwhelmed.

    Regards
