Hello Martin I've always had a passion for collecting and love these old Slade Wallace valise badges although they were supposed to have been destroyed by the quartermaster of the time I always imagine old soldiers spiriting them away at the end of service....My Dad always said what's the lifeguards badge doing with all that Guards stuff just thought it set off the collection nicely....Thanks...Kevin

I've got that used to following my own "Jack Speak" with and explanation I don't think twice now.

I've known several Guardsmen who've, shall we say, appropriated some nice pieces of kit for display purposes once the leave. One of them actually sold me a framed set of Colour Sergeant's chevrons. They are hanging on the wall in my office. it makes for some interesting conversations with my American colleagues!

I know what you mean Pete, my house is like the Royal Marines Museum, including a Drum Majors Cap Badge from the Royal Yacht , which is in three separate parts, and instead of the Globe, it is a Flaming Grenade, denoting that it was the Old Royal Marine Artillery that supplied the Band to the Yacht, after the Royal Marine Light Infantry fell from grace with King Edward V11. I also did have a Bandsmans Tunic, which again was different to the normal one worn, but I gave it to the RN Museum at Chatham. Wish I had kept it now.

I like this very much, a simple straight up and down Painters figure, and one that I can see. Thank you Mike for showing yours, it really is a great help on being able to see how the equipment fits together. A very neat job you have made of him, I now look forward to doing mine.
