I thought this mightbe useful for anyone wanting to try out a pre formed scull such as the "ultimate anatomy" that has been poted on PF.

    Hi All,
Since my last post I’ve had a go at a couple more busts which turned out much the same as previously.
The latest one, while it has many faults, such as some twisting of the features and a particularly poor left ear (all noted when I looked at the photos) has, I think, moved forward enough to be ready for corrective comment.

Please don’t hold back if you feel some brutal constructive criticisms are applicable.

Hi Andrew, this is so much better than your earlier ones. Just remember to keep everything centred, and use a pair of dividers to make sure things such as ears are the same size as each other. Well done(y).
    Best wishes, Gary.

Andrew, I would be chuffed to bits if that was mine. Other than the ear you mention this is your best to date. Well done mate.
Took the ears off my last one to try again as they were naff.

    Hi Gary,
    Thanks for the comments.
The dividers form part of my set of tools. As for the ears, I originally traced over the scaled side view of the head and initially used to poke holes though onto some flattened Sculpey and then cut around the dots. Now, the tracing has enough holes for me to simply place it onto the Sculpey and press gently to get the outline. At least the ears start out the same size until I start to do the detailing. I guess I’ll just have to be a lot less cack handed with the pushing and probing.

    Cheers,
    Andrew

    Barrie,
I got my wife to photograph my ears. Then I simply cropped the photos and printed them side-by side.
If you place them facing each other, you get an impression of a pig's snout, or maybe that just with my ears.

    Hi Guys,

A couple of weeks ago I tried to do a character head. Needless to say, I failed totally, recycled the Sculpey, recovered the MS eyeballs and went back to practicing the basics.
Yesterday I decided to have another go at the same head and think I’ve been a bit more successful.
Scale is around 1/10th and the material is a mix of standard and firm Sculpey.

Hi Andrew, this is coming along great(y). Overall impression is very good, but there are a couple of points, look over on you tube for tips on sculpting the lips, and when you are sculpting the hair, do it in locks and detail it lightly with a needle so as to add definition.
    Best wishes, Gary.

    Billy,
I really didn't expect anyone to make that connection.
I was using the following screen shots from 'The Wild Bunch':-

Maybe there's hope for me yet.
