I used av on my first bust and it's a little shiny. Do they have a dull coat I can put over dried paint ?

I found Vallejo dull coat to leave a slight sheen. I don't dull coat most of my figures, but those that i paint for my grandson need a protective coat becaue he likes to handle them. I use Testor's or Model Master. Just mix it really really well.

If you add a drop of Tamiya Flat Base (X-21) it gives you a perfect matt finish. I always add one, it works perfect.

One more thing, you must shake it well, but indeed there are some colours that the finish is satin, but doing what I said you never have the problem again. It depends on the amount of paint you use, normally with one or (if you use more amount of paint) two drops is enough. Try with it.

Make sure it is a small drop, but it does give a dead flat finish. Try a sample on the palate before using on the figure. Good stuff.

Yes, a small drop. I usually use a peak of an old brush, that generally is enough. If you use too much, it takes an off white aspect, like chalk, so try it with the correct amount.

Interesting subject I just used some Vallejo dull coat last week and have had a couple of small spots peeling off. Has anyone ever had that happen?

Only two or three drops in the mixture of paint and matt finish is totally and the paint not bleach anything. Of course the paint must be previously well shaken.

If you have the opportunity you must try out because I think you will like the result. It has been tested with Vallejo, Andrea, Scale Color, Citadel and Jo Sonja as I know. All acrylic colors

I decided to use W&N Artisan matt varnish on a recent piece because basically that was what I had to hand. I was very impressed with the results, especially when shot through an airbrush. I have now used it on every piece since. Good value too, about a fiver for 75ml (obviously there will be more volume when it's thinned for spraying)

This was my test piece for the W&N varnish, the finish isn't totally flat but I like it. Spoiler alert....it's not a figure

Thanks all for the info . I tried the Tamiya flat base because I had it handy . And used way to much it did turn very chalky . I was able to get it off and repaint luckily I tried on a back piece that was not noticeable. Thanks for the info on what I did wrong

I would have never tried that, I remember terrible things happening when mixing Vallejo and Tamiya.
But I guess it's not a problem when it's just a small drop, right? Will try next time.

No doedskvad, you´re wrong. You add the small drop (only a peak of an old brush, is generally enough) of Tamiya Flat Base to the paint, not to the Matt Varnish, the finish will be absolutely matt.

I've use plenty of Vallejo dullcote, they call it matt varnish, they also have gloss varnish as well.
These are the brush on, more for little parts or details that need to be protected and give a little shine or matting effect.
but for the overall figure I use testors dullcote spray can,to me is the best thing ever.
