"Not that great a sculptor" You may want to rethink that Brian with what you are producing here mate. Gets better with every post you put on here.

I agree with Barrie mate! Your sculpting looks pretty smokey to me mate.
the posture and proportions look spot on. The attitude, animation and the pathos of the piece is superb. The story is clear to see. Superb Brian, absolutely superb!

Many thanks Barrie,it's only uniform stuff I'm confident with, the arms are stock parts sculpted by Carl,I havnt got the skill to produce arms and legs or even a face.
I tried a face once and it looked like john Merrick when I'd finished, trying to get some good sculpting books

The only books I can think of Brian are the ones sold by Tirranti's, and I only seen one of them. Can't say if they are any good or not.
I mainly use art books mate. The discipline is much the same. All you need to study is human anatomy.
The best ones I found was by Louise Gordon. She's creates all the art for medical books.
I'll try find some and send you the links.

Be kind Carl... share those links with all of us sculpturally challenged ;)

Brian, though I'm not a huge fan of bustd or half figures, this is a fantastic idea and your execution is outstanding so far. Look forward to seeing some colour on these guys soon. IMHO, accurate or not, much like the period paintings posted above, the flag gives the scene a strong, colourful, romantic and recognizable focus... really anchours the whole group and draws them together... like all "Defending the Colour'' diorama, vignette or historical painting.

    Great project... Carry on MacDuff!!!
