In reality the field of Battle is a disgusting place to be. Brian is turning it into a beautiful piece of romantic Art. Thanks Brian I can't wait to see the finished piece, and more when you get the time.

For the 4th grenadier I thought I would just break up the scene a little with a different uniform, this time the grenadier would be in his service dress without the greatcoat which will remain on the knapsack,i used the same head as the colour bearer but turned sideways and a would bandage added, for this conversion I used Grahams French dragoon and sculpted the first parts of the uniform in magic sculp, the right arm is also from the dragoon and the left arm is a spare,i still need to do further uniform work on the main body which I plan to complete once the first stage has dried.
the arms were temp added to show fit of musket and to get a general feel for the pose of the piece.

I also added the cartridge case to the 3rd grenadier with its cover and left this to dry as well.

Brian, this is an inspired piece of work, historically accurate or not. If 99% is correct, as with all those military artists, does it really matter about the 1% ? Although I don't do busts myself, I greatly admire all those who do such wonderful depictions of fighting men. I have recently finished a diorama of the Chasseurs a Pied at Waterloo, comprising of all types of 54mm figures--- repaints of 'First Legion', Andrea, Beneito, Historex, and some chaps from a Greek firm[don't know the name!] It was something of a lifetime ambition to do this; never seemed to get around to it. I know from my own and other's research that it probably isn't entirely accurate, but that, to me, doesn't matter, simply for the pleasure it's given me . It is my humble tribute to all the artists who have inspired me over the years, and not least , to those brave souls who actually lived it.
I would love to post photos, but I don't have either the photography equipment or the technical skill to do so. It's something else I'm going to have to try to master:confused: !
Keep up the excellent work-- I look forward to seeing the next instalment(y)

    Cheers, Alan

When you go about photographing the final work, it would look pretty impressive if you could capture the busts protruding from smoke at the waistline. Lots of gun smoke at Waterloo although it would not have hung low like London fog. Just an idea.

This is looking great, already it's showing the disorganized chaos of battle and the faces have the look of despair to them. I'm sure your style of painting will show this even more.

Just to say that in my view this is - and will become more and more - a stunning piece of work. The romance of this period is the origin of much of its appeal and your model captures it perfectly.
