    Thank you Fabrizio.

    Day 4/2015 & pack is 90% done.
Just added mug, which some real effort & in my usual clutzy way resulted in extra work as Charlie fell on his face & broke pistol holster strap :(

One down side of these big guys is weight & handling.
Constantly working out how to position him as I paint.
    Quite demanding.

Hopefully you can also get sense of work going in on each section too.
Each texture effect is a time consuming task & can't be hurried.
    Patience is a must ;)

Still having fun, how about you?

    Mike

    Hi Carl,

    Glad these are helpful.
Plenty of small bits to tidy up as I work through this, plus these large, ugly iPhone photos reveal all sorts of nasties ;)
Important point with texturing becomes overall look & scale effect.
In actual fact much of my texturing, like others who's style emphasises this type of detail, is over exaggeration for this effect.

Here's one of the reference photos I'm using of actual WW1 small pack my mate has in his collection.
You'll note canvas texture is much finer & not quite what I've achieved yet.
    Maybe next time :)

While MagicSculpt dries on mug & pistol holster straps will get onto polishing Lewis Gun metal parts.

    Till next time,

    Mike

    Hi Mark - HAPPY 2015!

Thought I may as well pop some shots of Lewis Gun in progress.
This arvo polished Mr Metals (used mixes of Iron, Dark Iron, Aluminium) with soft brushes in motor tool.
Then applied AK Interactive "Worn Effects" over barrel guard, bipod & magazine before painting these with a sand shade before weathering.

.303 rounds painted with Mr Metal & polished with brass.

All in rough state with oil washes to be added.
Main cover & body housing will receive an acrylic coat to simulate the Matt black coating these parts have on their outer.

    Useful?

    Mike

What bust you working on mate?

Another nasty set of photos which I wonder if spoiling the "Big Reveal" in a couple of weeks.

Oh well live life dangerously that's me ;)

Day 7/2015 now working on Lewis Gun.
First up Charlie's bodgy paint work - see photos.
Then tonite will be dirtying this up after a few days in field.

    Any thoughts?

    Got ya Kevin!
May still use a little, will see ;)

Used Game Colour Smokey Ink - got it yesterday & immediately pressed into service.
Amazingly rich, intense colour out of the bottle & very versatile for washes.

    Thanks for commenting.

Those affects of gradual stippling and layer in this manner sure makes it look real, so I'm gonna say it's working pretty dang well Bro. Valuable info once again!

    Cheers, Ski.

Steve & Keith, I try never to let a post on these threads go by without acknowledgement.
However it getting harder with one this long to adequately state my gratitude for your support.

Hoping these rough photos do help others learn, that's certainly what I'm doing & don't have it all sorted by any means.

A neat challenge continues - today Day 8/2015 dark & dirty washes on barrel & magazine paintwork.
Question to ponder - should I do some dry brushing to emphasise details?

    Thanks!

    Hi Mike,
I am not too sure how to reply to this but I owe it to you to try.
In terms of acknowledgement; if you never improve your skills and continue at the level you demonstrate today the membership here see you as a top figure painter....No question.

Don't trouble your self looking for words to write. Your pieces speak for themselves. The gratitude comes from we the viewing members. You give more to your audience than you know when you share without question all of your techniques.
You are a fine Fellow and a super bloke to have on this site......keep up the good work Mate.
As for dry brushing, I always resort to it when all else fails.
All the best wishes Mike, love your work

Mike, to answer your question, I'm working on the Stormtroopers, Paul Klose bust that I got myself for Christmas. He is wearing a sheepskin vest over his uniform jacket.

    This ought to be fun!

    Hi Andy & Neil,

Yep looking forward to finishing this off, maybe even be boring a few folk here ;-)
However I've enjoyed ever part of the challenge in trying to get an authentic look of representative of our forebears.

Also neat learning how to recreate different effects from tea stained mug to a dried blood soaked bandage - still got this to come :)

    Stay safe,

    Mike

Oh that's a nice one from Laurent mate.
Shouldn't be too demanding - no cam :)
Can show some nice cold weathering effects on him.
Will be good to see how you finish this one up too.

    Stay safe,
