The variation in DPM is amazing I had a pair of (much treasured) trousers that the light brown was virtually grey with the other colours to match looked almost like the tropical DPM material. It's something people who've never been in the armed services often don't understand, I know I've mentioned it no end of times that whats in an Osprey book or the regulations often bears no resemblance to what actually was worn/carried mainly due to the fact soldiers can't leave well alone .

I shared a milan pit on exercise in germany with a US officer who was an umpire.

He claimed no matter what the camouflage we wore, he could pick out a brit sqddie at a distance.
"From the front your knees are worn pale and from the back the ass hangs down to your knees"!.

I told him, if you are british and it fits you, you are either deformed, or paying the regimental tailor to alter your work wear..

the British of the 80's to me is one of the best.
The successive camos after that are not near as great as the 80's.

If you look again at the photo above the chap behind is wearing the modern ones, same faded effect we cultivated, and he has the same amount of atumn scrim on his head too

I have seen few of those camos in some Army/ Navy stores, but I was surprised when I visit one of my friends in the southern region of Argentina and he had one of the newly assigned garments for the Army for Ardi regions.
To me , the pattern was copied from the Brit 80's, and it will look like the picture when whashed out.

I attempted to reproduce the brit pattern long time ago, just for fun, the funny thing is that I tried on a mustard color t-shirt, chopped some onions and added some some olive green paint and spreaded over the t-shirt just to prove my theory that the pieces of sliced onions will create that "pattern", and it was very closed.
It is hard to explain and you might think I am crazy but if you look at some pics of the 80's you will kinda see the resemblance of the pattern I am trying to explain.
That makes it a really suitable for many combat zones to wear.

The british defence research centre (garments), did the same research.
It has been claimed that the DPM pattern Mk1 temperate was inspired by the contents of a plate of thai green curry.
The resultant tests were a total disaster as the enemy could smell you coming from afar.
It was debated that if British forces made the enemy salivate enough with their clothing, they would be a push over.
I wonder if a veteran of that time was involved with our current troops clothing design.
They were constantly asking for more sour fruit haribos to be sent out to Afghanistan!
It is also of interest to note that 28% of all statistics are fake, as are some Posts on planet.
