I really quite like this. Powder marks, roughness, the grizzled look! I will keep an eye on this, as I do like my 95th & 60th Rifles. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice indeed Simon. Riflemen seem to have fallen out of fashion a bit. Maybe because there were very popular when Sharpe was on tv.
One question, are you left handed?

No definitely not taking anything away from the painting Mark, I'm left handed just wondered if Simon is aswell and if it was a conscious decision to make the figure a lefty.

No I am not a lefty, glad you all like what I have done so far, to be honest I am a bit lost as to what you mean Roger could you please elaborate? I assume it is to do with where the hammer position would be when firing the rifle and therefore where the powder would land when the rifle was fired, my only conscious bit regards powder build up burns on the face was that if there were other men around him or next to him that powder would be quite thick in the air.

Yes Simon that's exactly what I meant, although having said that it is entirely possible for a right handed shooter to be burnt by the bloke stood directly to his left.

Thanks for clarification, didn't take it as a criticism in anyway so don't worry, just wondered what you had meant as don't know a great deal about Napoleonic era and the weapons to be honest always good to learn knew things. Thanks for the kind words

And I was thinking that he was a left handed shooter !

Anyway, I believe he could use a little more contrast between lights and darks on his face in general. Some more shadow under his brow, cheek bones, and around the neck. He is coming out nicely though, and I look forward to seeing your progress !

The contrast is there, don't think my lighting was right on the photo, I try not to overload those areas as it doesn't look natural to me but that's personal choice

Fair point regarding leftiness of soldiers. I remember asking a question regarding this a few years back and I think the consensus was that soldiers would have been issued with right handed weapons and been expected to use them as such. I did wonder if a left handed soldier might have reverted to his natural dominant side if fighting perhaps in hand to hand combat.
I vaguely remember mention of the French Imperial Guard having some left handed weapons in the Napoleonics & this is where I display the onset of dementia; I think it was in an article by Cesare Milani in MM around November 1971 concerning some large porcelain type figures. If I'm right that means long term memory still working but short term memory b-----ed.
