First of all, apologies to Rich as my painting skills are not up to his wonderful sculpting. :(

However, I am doing my best and Amy is well under way. Still a long way to go and I am happy with progress. Not sure how to tackle the lenses in the goggles though, any suggestions?

    Hey dude,
We've not spoke for a while, nice job so far !
I recently finished the japanese dive bomber pilo bust.
Hiis goggles where also up and where tinted blue.
With acrylics I painted navy blue and german grey black overall,
then gloss varnish, then washes of lighter blue-tinted gloss varnish till I was happy.
You would get the same with your oils first a blue-black centre fading to grey black at the edges,
And then gloss varnish over I would think.
If you wanted to see the helmet behind through the lenses, I would paint the whole helmet, then use that smoke arylic over to darken slightlly and then gloss varnish the whole lens area a couple of layers.
I want to see this completed it's a lovely piece.
    Take care
    Paul.

WOW Graham! Pedro's right you really have brought her to life, the eyes are particularly good.
I have been giving this some serious consideration and now I've seen what you have done so far it's a definite purchase when I get home from sea in October.

Thanks for the tips guys. Rich, I did see an article on the old 'tinterweb referring to a painting of her which said that the eyes should be blue grey not brown as the artist had painted them.

The fluffy coller I am gradually blackening down with ink wash, I don't like painting anything black lol.

Really good to be back at the bench for a day, been over four weeks since I sat down to paint.

You have to get one of these Roger, apart from being a sublime sculpt and cast, it is just so bloody nice lol.

    Yep black's not friendly,
Specially when you are using flat techniques
Your brain's working overtime on shadow and depth of field at the same time.
No sympathey offered for that though, ha ha.
Don't lose heart now feller, you're getting it spot on.
I think the underpaint colours are well chosen too.

    He's right Rich,
I was in Driffield last week, struggled a bit to find a maiden to be honest,
So I just took their word for it in the end, easier that way.
    Still pricey though.
    Stuck with the beer.

Well, here she is after a great full day of painting. OK, I primed it yesterday but you know what I mean ol

Sorry about the dust on her jacket, didn't notice that until I prepped the pic for uploading. not sure what else, if anything I want to do to this one as I have reached the limit of my skills and then taken a few more steps. I am really happy with it though. To date, this is the best figure I have painted so what is there not to be happy about.

I will get a frame and get her mounted up to see what it looks like before I take a final decision about taking it further. I always get scared of going too far and making it worse.....

Any suggestions gratefully received and thanks for looking.

This looks really good Graham, your painting is coming on no end. I do have a tip for you, when you mount it, put shims in between the flat and the backboard. anything will do, card or lollypop sticks. This gives a bit more depth and makes the figure stand out, about 4 or 5mm will do it.
    Best wishes, Gary.
