    Hi all,

Break from big guy & now working on another little fellow.
I'm partnering up with John Belcher again to do another double act boxart on this one.
So next photos will be our joint interpretations.

In the meantime, here's my take on his face.
If you're at Euro recommend you check out this one as well as Benoit Cauchies's Frenchman.
Both come with head options and easily neat stand alone WW1 figures.

    What do you reckon?

    Mike,

I have been looking at a lot of painted figures lately. This face is exceptional - in comparison. I cannot put my finger on it exactly, but the look of your face is more "integrated" than most all the others. Yes, an ambiguous term, I know. But yours looks more like a continuous tonal pastiche rather than a bunch of patches of different tones juxtaposed with one another.

Yeah, I know - that sounds like blending. But there is more to it than that. However, words are inadequate to explain it.

The word superb comes to mind..... Superb! :wideyed::woot:(y)

    Hi Mike,

    Humbling...
    And embarrassing ;-)
When first saw you'd posted I thought for a second "Oh No, here we go again" :)

Then reading your comments I admit to being taken back.
Pleased to hear you like what you see, still feel it maybe more about my improving photography than painting.

Will be interested to see what folk think when they see him & other figures in flesh.
Hope to one day also have another opportunity to share with you too.

Thanks so much mate for your kind words!

    Stay safe

    Hello Mike,

I apologize for putting the fear of my wrath into you! That was never my intent. Honestly, I figured once i pointed out the neck trouble, you would have no trouble putting it right. It was a pretty simple job really. But i forgot that you are not a sculptor. I never wanted to make your life difficult. One of the reasons i mentioned it at all is because the fix was quite simple and I could have put it right in a half hour or so. It took much, much longer to explain than it would have been to actually do it.

    Sorry, my bad!

This is just another one of your great paint jobs. Keep up the good work!

    Cheers!!

No harm done at all mate :)
It was a wonderful learning experience for me, which I couldn't have asked more from.
Your coaching & advice have translated across to my approach to these little guys where anatomy is just as necessary to connect with what you are trying to depict with paint.

    Value adding always Mike!

Geez Mike, I swear you have a knack for wielding them brushes and slinging paint! I know, that's quite the opposite to your method of meticulously mixing your colors, loading your brush, then ever so delicately placing a tiny drop of color with precision and calculated forethought, all the while listening to classical music and occasionally taking a sip of brandy! Well, that's the picture I've got anyway :D!
