Mike, nobody paints uniform textures and details like you. I can't believe the webbing and how you've painted the stitching - just phenomenal, mate.

Jeez that's a big comment Nick mate :)
    Thanks for your encouragement.
Done another couple of of straps today will try & grab another shot before bed time perhaps.

Plenty of tidy up around the edging I noticed, oh well life's all about the little bits eh!

Last time I posted some decent photos I had a lesson I didn't expect but certainly needed - thanks MikeG

This time I'm hoping Charlie is more on target, if not Oh well you got live life a little dangerously don't ya :sneaky:

Here you can see webbing in various stages against jacket.

    Helpful?

    Mike

P.S. Head is still loose as Mike Good advised, has proven very helpful as lots of tipping him up & about to get under & around arms.

    Thanks again guys.
Photos are a bit bright on my iPad & make his face look a bit ruddy.
So here's another one with a "Noir" filter that provides a grittier, more natural look.

Also just finished off right shoulder strap.
In these photos it has a black undercoat & a loose stippling to provide base texture.
I then stippled heavily thinned mix of main acrylic colouring with blending medium & Matt Base.
This gets a bit sticky as you progress & helps add to a soft texturing effect.

    Trust that helps.

    LOL :)

    That's a classic Colin!
Lots of repeated build up of layers to try & get a simulation of the effect.

Also just finished watching "Regeneration" - an amazingly evocative story, thanks for recommending it.
Helps give an extra dimension to these WW1 projects we are all working on

So I'm sitting here admiring your work (again), of just how realistic every square millimeter looks thus far. Then I take notice of the excellently rendered cigarette, and think, shoot, I bet Mike rolls his own......with one hand even:D!

Neat to know you are all finding this long SBS thread still of interest guys.
Am grateful to each of you for taking time to comment to.

And yes Joe cigarette is a roll your own :)
I'm not a smoker but inspired by these lads who clearly know how to enjoy a good fag after a battle.

Used small square of cigarette paper around shaved oil paint & workbench desk varnish to create ciggie :)
Not painted just a little pastel to show ash & dirty finger marks from rolling.

Actually this is a my third attempt at cigarette, my wife advised me my earlier ones were too small.
Always good to get feedback from the missus ;-)
