Before I begin this update I would just like to add a few things which I missed during my last posting, first of all the kit details, these I have added below for anyone interested in purchasing these busts.

Both busts are produced by Paul at Model Cellar in the U.S www.ModelCellar.com and these are available from the UK distributor which is Steve Kirtley at www.skminiatures.co.uk ,as I briefly mentioned there was little clean up to complete due to the excellent casting from paul, there is hardly any blocks to remove, all have been kept to a minimum which is very helpful for me as I don't have much resin dust to worry about.

The busts themselves have been sculpted by Carl Reid,i don't think any introduction is required on here about carl,he is one of the leading sculptors in the UK and his subjects and creations are exceptional and proving very popular in todays market,i wanted to clear that up as I feel its very important to give these people a mention as without them we wouldn't have a great hobby like this so my thanks go to not just them but to all the figure and bust manufacturers out there.

Apologies for not getting back earlier but with work commitments, my daughters 7th birthday and my eldest daughters wedding this Saturday I havnt had much time for painting, however I got back to the bench last night and this is where I'm up to.
With the trench section itself I wanted to add just a few details but not go overboard as I didn't want to take the attention away from the 2x busts so I opted for some weathering to the trench walls which was important,a couple of scratch built lamps, some field telephone cables which were found in a lot of trenchs and perhaps a couple of signs.
The first thing I wanted to do was add some wear and damage to the wall planking using a drill bit and then add some muck / dirt to various areas of the walls to replicate the mud / soil which was evident in most trenches, for this I made a mix of pollyfilla / grit / white glue and added it to the walls and once primed and undercoated I would finish in oils.

Follwing on from this I wanted to add some communication cables which I replicated with speaker wire which was split in two and added around the top sections of the walls, for the makeshift cable supports I used piano wire.

For the next stage I wanted to add a couple of trench lamps,i looked at many photo's and I semed there were so many different types so using a bit of artistic licence I created my own, these will hang from the ceiling beam and also the wall,my plan is to paint them in a way where they will cast some light through the trench section, these were made with old bits of biro, plastic rod and tube and sheet.

The walls were primed with grey Halfords primer and left overnight to dry.

The walls were basecoated in GW bleached bone, normally 2x coats and once dry the oils could be added, the first stage of the oils is Burnt umber applied and wiped off to leave a stain.

I then added raw sienna to the lower halves of the planks and the raw sienna + white to the top sections and blended

I next added sepia to the planking

trench next stage 043.JPG trench next stage 044.JPG

For the mud areas I base coated thse in GW Mournfang brown, once dry I added raw sienna again and then raw sienna + white,at this stage I added a small amount of gloss varnish because I wanted the mud to have a damp wet look appearence

Continuing on from last post !

trench next stage 051.JPG trench next stage 052.JPG trench next stage 053.JPG trench next stage 054.JPG

The raw sienna + white mix I also incorporated into the planking so it combines well with the mud,it sort of brings the scene together, and the uniforms will also incorporate some of this colour so then the whole scene unites.

Hope you enjoyed this next stage and photos, coments and criticism welcome,i now have to work on my father of the bride speech for this weekend,i hope to add some more updates soon, thanks for your patience, happy modelling (y)

Regarding WWI - does anyone have a copy of the instruction sheet for Series 77 American 30, a US Army Air Service Lieutenant? Or, tips on where to find uniform colors? Have been unsuccessful on Google so far.

    Hi Brian,

Thanks for the "shout out" =). I put great care and thought into all my castings. I always try to use the smallest sprue possible and always try to put it in the least intrusive location. It's always satisfying to see our figures built, painted and on display. I can't wait to see the finished product. Glad you like them! ...and of course I thank Carl for the great sculpts to begin with.
