    Hi Colin,
Great progress, I agree about that painting it would make a great mounted figure. I can hear the foot tapping over here.....should I!.

Those close up pictures show a couple of things, what great metals and painting technique you have and secondly what an individual outstanding unique sculptor you are. I have said this before your excellent painting just lifts your excellent sculpting to another level. The unique pieces you create from putty to paint are the envy of us all:notworthy: , keep up the great work mate.(y)
    cheers

Better camera this time. Plodding away at the horse hair mane to his helmet. Did some work on his face but more to do.

Work on his sash and other details improved. Sleeves re-undercoated pending shading.

Thanks Zeno. No seal or smoke paint yet. I may leave it as is....metallic paint and ink.

Looks great Colin! Don't think that you need anything else to finish the breastplate. (y)

    Hey Colin
The metals look fantastic... I wouldn't do ant more to them. Any more fiddling might undermine what you have already got here. The gold embroidery and bullion epaullettes are spot on and the gong looks really cool. I also like the colour of the sash with the exaggerated knot.

The whole thing is really shaping up to be your best work yet... both putty and paint

Thanks very much gents. That will ruin your day Brian! Here's another whose owner had similar bad luck. From Lapray's book. Apparently these plates stopped a pistol ball....a 9 pounder not so much.

Back to work on finishing D'Hautpoul. I got him mounted on a nice turned walnut base from Ken Thomas and I have started to ink his NMM lace and epaulettes. Gold on the oak leaves and epaulettes. Silver on the trim to the red cuirass lining. The key is to dilute the ink so the shades of the NMM show through. Here's a close-up illustrating the effect.
