Dear planeteers, some WIP pictures of my current labour.

After deciding I was never going to get on with the Pegaso 75mm mounted Red Lancer, I reckoned I'd convert it to a kettledrummer of the Empress Dragoons.

I soon realised why this hasn't been done beofre - it's hard!

Anyway, here's some work done thus far. My next phase is to sculpt on the coat of arms on the drum banners.....

I must also take this opportunity to thank Graham at CGS, without whom this would never have got off the ground in the first place.

    Great idea BP,
Don't you just love those mounted timpani.
It's big detailed lot of work that you have taken on and I am eager to see this take shape.
I am not sure what you made the banners from but did you try the fit with the jockeys legs in place? Sometimes the banners fall over the legs of the rider and I would hate for you to model the crests only to find that you need to make some alterations. I am sure that you have this covered...what with coming from my neck of the woods and all that.
    Following you with this Mate,
    Cheers,
    Keith

    Cheers again fellas.
To answer your point Keith, as you can imagine I did a thousand dry runs and did plenty of head scratching. I came to the conclusion that I'll do the drums and fit the legs to those. I thought that where part A meets part B, I'd do part A and marry part B to it. I have no doubt they'll be some jiggery-pokery before I'm done.
I do enjoy this part of the process though.

The drums are basically Historex parts on which I sculpted the banner itself. Well I'll make a start today on the coat of arms....wish me luck!

I love having musicians in my pieces and this one will be a corker. If I can help at all just shout.
Looking at your progress thus far you have the skill and imagination and don't need Luck but Good Luck anyway.
    Cheers,

Well, after having sculpted both coats of arms, I've decided to scrape it all of and start again with both...
I knew this would happen, but if you're not happy, it needs doing.

Thanks fellas. Basically, I think you know instinctively when you've got the desired result and anything less won't do.

I reckon I know where I went wrong and have a plan to correct it. We all know about plans.........;)

    Crimean crisis? Missing airliner?
NO! You want to find out what I've been doing instead. ;-)

This is version two of the banner of the kettledrums. This is about 75% done, with only little fiddly bits left to do. I packed in as I was running out of steam this morning.
    Any comments/suggestions welcome as always.
