Simon I have this as well what is your take on the roll up on the back - blanket or groundsheet?

    Hi Jimmy,

The roll up is actually the gas cape, during the campaign in France 1940 the British infantryman wore the gas cape as shown below, there was an elabroate system of tapes that tied the roll to the pack and to the gas mask case worn on the front of the chest, pulling these tapes would unfold the cape quickly enabling the soldier to slip into the protection asap in the event of a gas attack.

the images below give you an idea of this

Great start mate ,lovely figure more Brits yahoo and not a bit of splinter camo in sight lol
With the position of the helmet you would be able to see the helmet liner I am sure just a thought ,it's just that when Jim did the helmets on the two Normandy busts he put the helmet liners to show ,strange old helmets Jim has one and they show quite a bit when on and with his position on the back of his head the front lip of the liner would be visible .
Not being picky mate but looking great will follow with interest
    Cheers Chris

    Hi Chris

Yeah I love to see the Brits get a chance on the market, As my old grandad served right the way from 1939 till demob in 45, so means something to me to represent our old boys. Love your busts that you and Jimbo have been working on.

In terms of the helmet, your completely right about the liner, i've been toying with how to represent it as Moz didn't sculpt it within the helmet probably because of the hair at the front sticking up, I haven't fixed the helmet in place yet as will paint separately. The question really do I build something inside the helmet piece or around the head.

will ponder and post my results soon

    cheers

Really nice bust from Moz ......Reminds me of something I tried to do on operation dynamo 20 odd years ago using an old verlinden figure with a roll call head which I believe was sculpted by Moz at the time..Great start on this nice bust image.jpg

    Hi Si and Funky ,
Great figure funky lots of charecture and lovely pose like the bandage , I am sure you will ponder as I do lot of that these days when I can't find the car lol . Yea I feel the same about the Brits and commenwealth troops as I mentioned in another post the germans had more different camo than a hookers client list ,but as my dad said none of it was bullet proof, lol. Perhaps we should have spent more time in 1939 developing Camo we would have lost the War but the figure market would have been swamped in variations of oak leaf / prince of Wales check .....or herringbone /pea dot properly not very functional but by god Smithers it would have been classy ,what sa you old chap
    Cheers Chris

great to see those photos of your dad, there's only one of my grandad but I've only seen it once as it got lost when my nan died, it shows him with his nobly knees in his khaki shorts and shirt and pith helmet in libya its either 39 or 40. Kev don't worry about the minor hijack its great to share a bit of knowledge

In terms of the helmet liner I have spent about 2 hours working on trying to get something in position there that looks right, to no avail without causing damage to the hair at the front of the head which is a real part of the look of the figure plus some of the height of the helmet position in the photos is down to the blue tac used to hold it there so when removed it sits a little lower. but to be honest I will be hard pressed to fit a liner in place without it looking really odd so i'm not going to bother as i dont want to ruin the look of the bust
