Hello Mark, You are right about the camo overalls being non-reversible. I have read accounts of them being both reversible, and non-reversible. Perhaps war shortages contributed to them becoming one-sided??? I have seen the buttons in both plastic, and metal, in wartime photos. The camo overalls that I posted are probably a reproduction, but the pattern, and colors, look pretty accurate. Wish you were joining us, it would be interesting to see how you would paint this second one, the first was excellent. Regards, SG:)(y)(y)

    Hi Guys ,
Can't sleep so I thought I would check in ...great stuff being done

    Pedro ,
Hope all is well now , like the cap , you are way in front at the moment (y) like the way you are going , looking forward to your peadot .

If I may suggest I think all the flesh needs is a blending of the shadows a bit more whe highs on the cheeks look like it has a distinctive line if you understand me...like the shadows as a result of the peak .

    Mark ,
Thanks for posting your comments are always very welcome indeed as is looking at your painting skills ;)

If anyone needs reference's on camo I have these in the Europa Militaire series as well as the book that Mark mentions

Hello Everyone, I like how this thread is starting out. To Pedro, nice work so far, your way ahead of me. I like how you will display this bust in the Ardennes. I was thinking along the same lines as you, since this bust has overalls, a rubberized coat with the collar turned up, and a scarf. Although, it was cold and rainy at the start of the Normandy campaign also. I was also going to paint it as a recon grenadier, because of the motorcycle coat, but I'll go to option #2, darn you Pedro, only kidding. To Nap, I also like your Hermann Meyer conversion idea. That large bill of the cap might be a real challenge for you, hope that your able to pull it off without to much problems. I'm also debating if I should change the bill??? Would like to reveal more of that right eye. Although this bust doesn't resemble him much, one idea I had was from this photo of Franz-Josef Kneipp. He was an Untersturmfuhrer, which the shoulder boards on this bust represent. He was a signal officer with the III./SS-Panzergrenadier- Regiment 25, 12th SS Panzer Div. Hitlerjugend, He is wearing a camo overall, and an enlisted belt buckle on his combat harness, also on the bust. Decisions, decisions, I'll have somthing ironed out by Monday. Here is the photo of Kneipp, Regards, SG knightsandsteel3.jpg

Nap, thanks for your opinion, but this time the flesh is not as i expected. Better next time.
    SG, Ardennes is ok;)
The work continues and one hour I finished the scarf and the peadot camo in the jacket, I believe this "overalls" can paint as a jacket also.

Scarf: Dark grey base, lihts with light grey.
Base painting in Cap: Fieldgrey + Olive grey
Base in Great coat: Green grey + fieldgrey
Colours in Jacket: English Uniform 80% + 20% dark sand
    Dark green Dots: Dark Green
Light green Dots: German camo bright green
    Sand Dots: Flesh base
    All with Vallejo.
Next week the bust is done for sure. :)

    Pedro.

    Many thanks SG!
I do not mind extra work - because I was unhappy with the flesh tones i decide repainted skin again with the acrylic colors that usually use for my 54mm figures and this is the final result of 2 hours work.
    Colors use:
    Base - Calvary brown 50% + Brown sand 50%
Lights - Ading to base Sunny skint tone
Extreme Lights - Sunny skin tone + Hueso
Shadows - Very diluted Calvary Brown

Sorry for the quality photo but you get an idea. I am very happy!:joyful:
Hope to see your works soon guys!!!

Hello Pedro, I like the changes you made to the face, it looks completely different.(y) Are you planning to give the tunic a wash, or pin wash to bring out the detail of the buttons, pocket, and lapels??? I have been working on this bust this afternoon. Like you, and Mark, I will be doing surgery on the eyes, just not enough there to paint in its present condition. On my example of this bust, the right eye is not really there, just a small lump, disappointing, but I'll try to fix it. Amazing what the optivisor reveals. Hope to start posting photos, and references, with sbs soon. Regards, SG

Hello Everyone, Last night I started working on the eyes, not painting them, but trying to re-shape both eye sockets. As I previously mentioned, earlier in the thread, the right eye is not there, just a small bump of resin to represent the eye, no eye socket at all. The left eye is better, but very narrow, so I'll try to fix it also, a little frustrating, and time consuming. These eye areas are fixable, but still alot of work to make them look presentable, wish I was a little more skilled at sculpting. I'm using a x-acto knife to perform the surgery. Other than these eye areas, the eagle on the cap, and also on the belt buckle have some air holes in them, that will need some filling, not to bad though. I hope that somebody will come out with photo-etch medals, rank badges, awards, ect... to go on uniforms, and not just WWII, in 1/9th, 1/10, and 1/12th scales, to use on busts/figures, none out there that I know of. Sure would make conversions a little more easier, especially with all the new busts out now. I'm still leaning towards making the bust a non-com, maybe as an officer candidate. The shoulder boards had slip on bar strips to show the soldiers status. Also want to add the nco strap around the hat. I haven't decided the pattern, or colors, on the camo coveralls as of yet, but probably a plain tree one in summer/fall colors??? The rubberized motorcycle coat, which I have seen in many colors, ranging from a light mouse gray, to dark field gray, will be painted in colors that won't distract from the camo coveralls. Once I get past the eyes, hat, and shoulder boards, and start to paint, I'll post the colors I'm using with the photos. Here are some references on what I'm trying to shoot for: 579533d1381177029-interesting-waffen-ss-headgear-hg-40b.jpg g006526-2_1.jpg 102712 206.JPG 579498d1381169554-interesting-waffen-ss-headgear-hg-47b.jpg C-011.jpg Fig59.jpg Fig60.jpg Picture 574.jpg kradmantel.jpg 09122804.jpg SS_NCO_EM.jpg I thought the last photo of the Rottenfuhrer (corporal) was interesting wearing the peaked cap, instead of a side cap version. Very good references SG. Once more be careful with the eyes a long cut could ruin everything.
Photo etched metal would be nice in this scales, I think NIMIX from Spain have some in his catalogue.
    Keep the good work!

    Hi Guys ,

Brilliiat references from SG ...I like the idea of the officer cadet on the epaulettes ...just finished work ....yesterday I took the peak off ...with a very sharp knife ..hang on ....1,2,3, 4, 5 ...thank goodness all my fingers on one hand ..the other looks the same !!!!.

Then looked at the eyes ...out came my dremel ..he now has sockets with the eyeballs on the middle , no peak ..oh blimey does it get any better ....can't wait to get the kolinsky out!!!!

Really enjoying this ...still nothing from Goetz yet ..hopefully soon

24.jpg Hello Nap, I was also thinking about taking off the peak, to get at the eye sockets a little easier, but didn't like how the peak thickens going towards the forehead. I also have a dremel, which is a great idea, so maybe. You're braver than I. Looking forward to seeing how that meyer cap turns out. Sent a message to Goetz, but haven't heard back from him. I have a full pot of coffee brewing:coffee: and plan to get some work done tonight, have a couple of days off from work, so plan to get this bust where I want it before painting. Nap, if your going with a tropical look, as in your photo, the motorcycle coat also came in a lightweight version, almost identical in design to the rubberized one. I think I have a few more reference photos, if you need some. Regards, SG:)(y)
