    Hey all

Just looking at Moz's new piece, Cuirassier Officer and I said it is one of my top 10 fav uniforms. Having said that I figured I'd put the question out there...

What are your top 10 favourite uniforms, of any era, in no particular order?

My list (as of this moment)-
    • French Cuirassier 1812-15
    • Polish Lancer... Dutch "Red" Lancer (two sides of the same coin)
    • Russian Grenadier 1812
    • Prussian Infantry 1870
    • French Zouave 1870
    • 2nd North British Dragoons "Scots Greys" 1815
    • Chassuer a Cheval of the French Imperial Guard 1812-15
    • 95th Rifles 1809-15
    • British Light Dragoons 1815
    • Louisianna Tigers Zouaves
***An extra special mention... Though not actually a "uniform" in the strictest sense, I really love the style of dress of the Zaporozhian Cossacks of the 16 and 17oo's...The ultimate in swagger!! Scalp-locks and moustashios for everyone! :joyful:

This is how I kill time after the Flyers' game is over and it's too late to start painting.

Look forward to seeing your lists

I think that the British uniforms of the 1820s through to the 1850s, and Imperial Prussian uniforms in the years between the Franco/Prussian War and WWI are some of the nicest yet least depicted uniforms.

Colin - my faves are general and general staff officer uniforms of the Napoleonic, ACW, Crimean, and WWII periods, particularly the former where the uniforms were often individually designed or adjusted (e.g. Lasalle, Murat Etc.). For combat units - either British paras at Arnhem or the light Brigade at Balaklava - all units and all ranks.

I agree, on the Prussian/Imperial German uniforms, and I'll carry that forward to the Wehrmacht and SS. I think it was Mollo who observed that while the Allies depicted them as showy or gaudy, the German uniforms were a combination of practicality and tradition. I have to look up the exact wording, but I've always had that impression. And the SS, while evil, made a dramatic appearance--intentionally, of course--with the black uniform, which again, harkened back to recent German military history for its inspiration.

I think the impact of German military tailoring is indicated by how frequently in fiction, especially in animation, we see uniforms that owe more than a little inspiration to either the Third Reich, or the Hohenzollern empire.

    Prost!

Steve, I suspect they looked a shambles in their red coats from some of the accounts I've read.
